fork seal drama

Sat Feb 23, 2013 7:56 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

the drama of fixing other peoples ruff jobs on my race mc21 goes on

at the last meet the fork seal started leaking real bad, to get me through the day I went to put a rag under the dust cap only to find an oil soaked one already there

now with the forks apart it appears the seal has been glued in!!

they are all apart but the seal just wont move

any ideas?

Clamp outer in vice using the caliper mounting points, then heat outer with a blue/butane flame where seal sits. Then yank on inner until the seal starts to move.

Thanks man, that worked sort of, it loosed the seal enough so that i could gently get it out with a small screwdriver, however the washer bewteen the seal and the bush seems to be the real issue, thats jammed in there I

That's why I said to use the inner to yank all of the parts out...This way you won't damage anything! Stay far away from screwdrivers when working with forks ! Glad it helped !

there are some chips, would say why that was blown in the first place

bit of a delima now, put it back together, smooth off the chips and hope for the best

go a bit further and attempt to get the washer out

or another fork leg, does anyone know if mc16 forks will work with 21 internals?
