MC21 cuts out when warm - suggestions please?

Fri May 03, 2013 5:01 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi
My MC21 has developed a problem where it stops after running for a while. I have replaced the ignition cut out as this seemed to be the initial source of the problem. However now the bike seems to run for about 10 - 15 minutes then stops. The suggestion seems to be that the PGM III is malfunctioning when it gets warm. Does this seems correct? Is the PGMIII repairable? There is a possibility the PGM has had a knock at some stage so I am unsure how robust these units are.
Appreciate any words of wisdom or advice.
Thanks
Paul

Have you checked to see if there is still spark once warm..?
That would be the first polace to look, whick would narrow it down to an ignition problem.

It could also be a fuel blockage problem. Check any filters you have, including the tank one (you'll need to remove the tap).

My bike had a similar problem, but I noticed that after I opened the petrol cap (to see if I had run out of fuel), and closed it again, the bike would start.
The problem was the fuel tank breather was blocked, so a slight vacuum would build up in the tank after about 10 to 15 minutes riding (depending on how full the tank was) and this would stop petrol flowing into the carbies.
Just try opening and closing the petrol cap next time it stops.
Or, of course, just blow back through the breather to check it flows air into the tank reasonably easily.

It could easily be some other problem, but it would be nice to rule this one out.

Thanks for the tips - I'll give them a try.
