Motogymkhana paddock Japan…for NSR spotters

Sun Feb 01, 2015 7:47 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

This is a good clip for keen eyed NSR spotters.
It's a walk round of a Motogymkhana paddock in Japan last year.
I got 16 without pressing pause….try it.
(couldn't tell which was R, SE or SP)

Here's a few screen shots, surprisingly all on stock pipes:

Tominga's bike, he's the top man on a NSR:

Strangely not a SE or SP ,

I like these vans:

Stock pipes give better bottom-end, and lower COG than race pipes.

But they are soooooo heavy.
I bought some Tyga pipes for my Wolf half way through last season, the pair weighed less than one Suzuki pipe.
I didn't notice any performance difference but it was so much more manoeuvrable.
Hang on a minute, I'd better be careful not to talk myself into spending several hundreds pounds for no reason. Shocked

Last year I showed some of the NSRs in action to somebody, he said, "what a waste of a good NSR"
I'm tempted to agree but on the other hand keeping your NSR in a cocoon could also be called a waste.

It's never a waste if you're enjoying it. Some people don't like to ride fast, so people don't like to ride on the street... horses for courses, as they say.

Yes, the stock pipes are very heavy, but race pipes tend to lose bottom-end and mid-range, over stock pipes, and you will be using predominantly low RPM.

Stock chambers are also very robust! They will stand up to the bike being dropped far better than any race pipe. I expect the Japanese guys know a thing or two... hence why they are happy to run stock pipes!

Why not run with stock pipes for the first season, if you like the power delivery, find a way to make a set based on similar dimensions for the next season?

It'll save you some money upfront, then you can decide what to do. You might even be able to borrow some TYGA pipes from someone local to see if the power delivery is what you want.

I have a set of "race" pipes made to stock dimensions, and the work very well! They don't give the over-rev of true race pipes, but do retain all the bottom-end and mid-range, as you would expect.

Basically, they're pretty much standard pipes that weigh 1/3 of stockers! They do perform a little better though, as there's no silly double-skin or perforated noise reduction sections inside.
