Hello "Iron_Angel", and welcome to NSR-WORLD! I think you're our first member in Russia! Smile

That's a serious project you have there! It's great to see another MC16 being saved! I'm looking forwards to seeing your rebuild.

Day by day I am gathering my small beast to ride able condition. Unfortunately I can not do a full restoration of it as someone does it and show it at forum. I decided just gather it in stock condition using old but proper parts.
For now I have two main problems.
First is the crack on the exhaust port of one cylinder.
Second is one of CDI unit is not working.
The first problem I solved by buying the set cylinder+piston from Japan. I really hope that it will be in a god condition. The photos on the Yahoo could be much better but I have to take it for luck. It quite expensive but re-plating much more. An addition, in Russia no one do this work.
The second problem have appeared when I checked wiring and discovered that I do not have one spark. I rechecked all wires fixed all old crap that was done by previous owner. But one spark is not come back. The engine starts quite quickly but working only one cylinder. I checked pickup coils, ignition coils, caps and high tension wires. All things show a good condition. Today I am going to swap CDI units and watch if be working other cylinder.
When I be sure that the CDI unit is dead I have four option.
1. I open dead unit and bring it to a man who understand how to fix it. I am nor sure that CDI unit can be fixed. But I see in internet the lot of them were opened and fixed. Is anyone have the circuit of it?
2. I buy used units on Yahoo. (not sure that it will be working). It is quite expensive and I have to wait for month.
3. I buy the china one on Ali. It is really expensive for me and the same month waiting.
4. In my city I can by CDI unit from mc 18. It is quit cheap. But I am afraid that the mc18 unit can require to change flywheel, pickup coils, exhaust valve control units and add a throttle sensor. I can do all of this things but I do not know If it is a benefit in using the mc18 cdi unit on the mc16 engine. And It controverts to my thoughts about keeping the bike in stock condition.
My appology for my English.

Changing the electronics to MC18 will indeed be a big job. Even the PGM-I from the 1988 model is significantly different to the MC16, so really I think it's best to try and find/repair the MC16 CDI.

Let us know what happens when you swap the CDI's over. Does the misfire move to the other cylinder?

Hello.
I was in my garage yesterday evening. I swapped over the CDI units. I tried to start engine. Engine did not show me any sign of life. I took out spark plugs and did not see any sparks on both. I returned wires on CDI's back in the places were they were originally and checked the sparks. I saw only one spark on the front cylinder. I swapped over CDI's again and got sparks on the both cylinders. In my opinion sparks were quite weak. But I tried start the engine in this condition. Engine started on the both cylinders. The tachometer was working. The exhaust valves was working too. So I do not know wot I have to think.
I going to go to my garage on the weekend warm bike up and stir the wires when engine is working. May be I can locate a place were the problem hide.
