Having tested the throttle position sensor on my MC18 it's become clear it's dead. It'll have to be replaced, if that's even possible. I've googled "NSR250 throttle position sensor" and have come up with nothing. Is it even possible to buy one of these new - if so where: is there another unit for another Honda model that will fit - if so which model of Honda?
My presumption is that without the TPS I'm pretty much screwed as far as getting the bike running and the RC valves operating.
Your best bet, almost certainly, is going to be Yahoo! Auctions or proxy company such as Jauce or Buyee, although of course, it's worth putting an advert in the Classifieds section here just in case.
I expect you will need to buy a complete set of carbs and rob the TPS, but you do see them come up on their own from time-to-time.
NOTE: If you buy a TPS on it's own, ensure the little white joint (that fits between the slide lifter shaft and the TPS) is present. _________________ Andy.

Thanks for your feedback Andy. Are TPS failures common?

I can't say it's a common failure point... I've never personally seen/heard of one failing [in best part of 30 years around NSRs]. That's not to say someone else has seen one/a number fail. I don't recall ever seeing many, if any, posts on the forum here about it in the past though. (This is where an old forum member "Fontyyy" always came in handy before... he seemed to have a photographic memory for previous related topics he would link to where available, as the search function of phpBB has always been rather sketchy!)
I don't know of any other model that has a common part. I highly doubt it's NSR-specific, but having never needed to tinker, I've never been in the position to look for a substitute part I'm afraid. _________________ Andy.

Your response causes me to think I maybe should be looking at a failed wire within the insulation . Possibly as a result of corrosion or, even where the wiring comes out of the sensor. Thanks for causing me to rethink the problem.
I had a dead electrical circuit which after a series of checks with a multimeter was located to a splice in the wire, when I cut the insulation open the metal crush joint the factory had used had turned to green dusty lumps due to damp causing corrosion leaving three lose wires.
Not knowing what the rest of the loom was like I unwrapped / removed the entire loom casing and found two more on their last legs ( every joint on mine is now soldered)
