HELP MY NSR STOPPED WORKING!!

Sun Aug 14, 2005 5:58 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi there, I have just got my new nsr250 Mc18 RK5 up and running after buying it a few weeks ago. Took it to the get the MOT, it passed!! I was very happy, so went up the road for about a mile, the indcators started to fade. Then i stopped at a roundabout it cut out, I turned the headlight off it started, went and got some petrol as I thought that maybe the problem, went well for about 5min then started to miss, then power just went and the bike stopped. No very happy as I had to push it for about 2 miles!!! I checked it today and it started for about 2 seconds and went dead.
Any ideas, by the way the battery was new, also the spark plugs. Crying or Very sad

Voltage regulator problem? Battery died and the bike wont run? Hopefully it is just something that simple.

Wrench hit it right, my bike did the same thing with new battery it would go for a while and things would fade, then the tac would go coo-coo and start misfiring and die. I would wait several minutes and it would run a little longer. So installed new after market reg/rec and it would be fine for days, then it would happen again and repeat. Turned outI had a bad harness, replaced that and never came back.

CHARGED THE BATTERY UP AND IT STARTED!

Mon Aug 15, 2005 11:39 am » Post: #8 » Download Post

I have just charged the battery up it starts, how can I check the coil and the rec/reg are doing their jobs? If the rec/reg had gone would that stop it changing??? I felt the rec/reg it was warm? Confused

They do get hot, hece the need for a big heat sink and fins.

To check the charging circuit, check the voltage on the battery with the engine running above 2000rpm. It should be about 13.5-14.5 volts.

I Checked the votage on the battery, it was reading about 11.5 to 12, when I reved it to 2,000 it went down to 10, Seams to not getting any charge. Anyway went out for a quick ride, it seamed ok for about five mins, all dash lights bright. Then it got dark so I had to put my lights on, it started to play up, got home this time, in steath mode no lights!!! So it sounds like a Reg? I'll also have a look at the fault finding chart. Anybody know where to get a reg in the UK, and can I use one from a other Honda bike?

Cheers Guys

Just about any will do, but the genuine Honda ones don't seem very robust. You might be better with an aftermarket one.

Jon,

Have a look on ebay, but for CBR & VFR 400 parts, there are loads on there and a regualor off there should be fine.
