I am taking the motor out of my mc21 and was disconnecting the clutch cable from the bottom of the engine ,I was using a wrench to hold the lever back to unhook the cable and slipped forcing the lever in the direction of the clutch side until it seemed to break something because it did not have any resistance anymore, what did I break ,since I'm going to take the crank out can it be fixed there or do I have to get into the trans?
There is a screw/nut adjuster to slacken off the clutch cable holding it back is not required, However to late for that, has the spring gone pop? if not i can only imagine itll be the shaft going up into the box but youd have to be really pushing to break that i think. If its not the spring at the bottom, then i think you might have to take the g/box out to look at the push rod and the top of the shaft that operates the pushrod!, but its no big deal it comes out easy... if you find out that the box needs to come out and you havent done it before drop me a pm, and ill give you some tips as i found a few things to watch out for. or do a search as i posted my gearbox change here a while ago!
unfortunately, the spring looks good ,like I said I slipped with a fairly long wrench in my hand so there was a lot of pressure on it,I was quite disgusted with myself thanks rc46 I'll let ya know when I get to that part
No the arm does not spin all the way around ,I went back and looked maybe the spring slipped off the side of the arm ,I'm going to look at parts manual to see how the spring go's ,but it does not have any tension now ,should it have any tension without spring?
To be honest i havent tried however i would have thought that the clutch springs would give resistance as well, and that the spring on the arm is just to keep the arm in the right place when changeing cables or taking the box out!!!!! MMM intresting one!!!
thats what i thought too, that spring is to small to give that kind of reistance ,If I could stop working at my real job I could get something done in the shop,Hope to have the engine out in a couple days or so and find out,!
I just put my 21motor (dry clutch) back together in the process of installing the clutch I didn't pay attention to the clutch arm orientation. It was 180 degrees in the wrong direction. Was easy to fix just remove the springs from the clutch. Pull the outer part of the clutch off and then move the arm back to where it goes. Just watch out when you turn the arm that the center part on the clutch doesn't fall out. If it does there is 1 ball bearing between the push rod and the center part in the middle of the clutch. _________________
