Seriously though, there's a crinkly seal in the Jha flange that gets crushed in no time and causes the leak. The best way to to use a good smear of Hi-temp RTV on the manifold before you put the pipe on, then give it half an hour or so to cure before starting.
MMM, my TYGA's do that as well? Is it cause for concern? should i wip em off and use some of that RVT stuff? I thought it was okay as its a spring that holds it on and its never gona be as good as a nut n bolt!
The nuts only tighten the actual manifold down onto the gasket. That's the first part sealed just like the stock pipes. The sliding fit of the pipe onto the manifold also needs sealing, and this is where the sealer comes in. I use Permatex Hi-Temp. Comes in a red tube and smells pretty sharp. Make sure you degrease the manifolds and pipes before using the sealer or it won't seal properly.
Cool, will do!! Is there a chance that damage could be done if not sealed properly? Ive already done a track day and it seemed to go fine, but i got another day comming up on the 24th, so need to know if its worth doing before hand, if there is no thret of damage ill wait as i gotta take it all off to fit the new suspension anyway, Cheers
No it'll be fine RC. They all splurge out the burnt oil if not sealed but you wont affect the mixture or breathing from it doin it. It's just messy! _________________ NSR300R - Why did i ever have a 250...
Cool, thanks for the reply max, I can do messy, but cant do broken just yet LOL .. I had her stipped down the other day and cleaned it all off the fairing and chambers, so ill wait until after oulton and do it again but with a sealer and fit my new SP suspension at the same time!!!
bit of a thread hijack, I got mine from MAtt and PAul, awsome, new forks looks ace as dose the rear, but my r stuff works so if it aint broke dont fix it... especially with oulton comming up... Ill have time afterwards to fit and fiddle!!!
do the Jha pipes use 2 orings in the flange?
the ones I have have 2 groves which look like they are for a pair of orings on the flange. the pipes then slide over them.

Remember that a two stroke engine vibrates a lot, and if the exhausts were solid mounted, they'd need to be very strong to withstand the vibration, hence the reason the lightweight pipes are best fastened on with springs. _________________ MC21SP Plaything
