Launch RPM

Tue Jul 13, 2004 3:39 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Dear fellow NSR owners,

Just recently got my NSR restored. It is fun to ride it around. Guess I am still relatively new to this type of engine. I feel so different when launching it at low RPM. The bike sometimes feels a bit jerky or lugging and there was a time it stalled after a few seconds moving with the first gear. It is especially difficult when doing slow tight turns. Is the low end of the engine really that bad or am I doing it wrong? Any suggestion? Thank you.

The two stroke is designed to produce a lot of power at a certain rev range - the top. The manufacturers have improved things a lot with power valves, but really it's still not good when you're out of the 'power band'.

Use a lower gear and higher revs and you'll find it all a bit smoother.
