NSR50R break-in question (about jetting)

Tue Oct 03, 2006 10:59 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

The manual says to "enrich the jetting by 2 ranks during break in". Does this mean adjust the clip position on the jet metering rod, or adjust the a/f screw? By the way, the manual also shows 5 clip positions on the metering rod and the bike came with only 3 positions.

Wazzup?

That means increase the main jet 2 sizes, so from 130 to 135 or 162 to 168 for example.

The jet sizes increase by 2 then 3 then 3 then 2! For example, 130, 132, 135, 138, 140, 142, and so on.

Thanks for the fast reply!

So is it absolutely necessary to do this? Why would the bike not ship with the appropriate jet if it's needed for break-in? I just don't see myself being able to order and receive another jet before this race-weekend. (I am prepping a brand new bike, and this is also all new experience for me.)

Well, HRC know what they are talking about, so I'd follow the book! Smile

The thing is, the main jet that the bike shipped with is only the "safe" main jet anyway. The carburetion will need fine setting up not only once, but at every race (sometimes more than once per meeting too, if you are really competetive!) to make peak power.

What size is the current main jet? What type is it round or hex? The manual will probably list the main jet part number(s), so I doubt there is any reason why you could not get a replacement jet, or even a range of jets, by the weekend.

If you were to update your profile with your location, then maybe someone relatively local to you will offer some advice on sourcing the parts.

HRC like to jet very rich when the bike leaves the factory. I remember trying to run in my RS125 when I first got it. The thing would barely run on the supplied main jet, and it wouldn't rev past about 11 grand.

These days I ignore suggestions about richening the fueling or more oil etc etc. I just bung the new parts in, heat cycle them a couple of times, and ride it 'til it breaks. Twisted Evil
