I have just fired up the the new engine in my MC18 ! The old crank died and was binned so I picked up another complete engine on ebay.
I was unable to check the exaust valves as when I disconected the throttle sensor and turned the igntion on it did not move at all.I did test the servo and sensor but no joy. Any ideas ?
They were set the same so I left them. The servo did move when the enging was running but I only ran it for a few minutes to check for leaks ect.
I'll see how it goes in the morning once the tank and seat is on.[/img]
The bike started first kick and ran good today even though it started to rain as I wheeled it out of the garage, but that was not going to stop me after almost three days of tinkering .
After a short run around the block to warm it up and another check for any leaks, I then took it for a quicker run (now raining hard ) the clutch slipped a bit at 10k ,I'll try a different gearbox oil before taking the side casing off, draining the coolant ect and replacing it with the spare .( well I can hope)
No mate, you outbid me on it I got my bits i did win today,Nice guy Ian,really went out of his way to get the bits posted to me.
Wasn't it a race/track bike though?they never have an easy life do they?
Maybe, but unless you've got receipts you've got to assume that's a minimum of a 17 year old bottom end, you're just rolling the dice really.
A racer could have a full stripdown out ever winter, a commuter could be run on £2 mineral oil..... _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
Thanks for the replys chaps.
I am sorry to have out bid you Mr Gixer but I realy needed it as Andy binned my crank.
Ian is a nice bloke as he gave me all the bits and pieces he had left.I did buy the loom and electrics off him as well .Soon to be for sale as it is a PGM2 unit and I have the old PGM set up.
I thought if it had a few trackdays it was not a lot of diffrence to how the things are rode anyway living between 8-11.5k.
The engine was full or oil as the pump seal had come off,so I put my one on.
The pistons were unmarked looking up the exaust port with a torch and the crank didn't have any play when I wiggled the flywheel.
I did notice the flywheel was a bit smaller then the one I had so I swapped the generator and flywheel as I knew mine was ok.
I didn't want to rip it to bits to have a look at the clutch as I've only just put it back together
Ssshhh mate you'll get me shot calling me mr gixer here
Looking at the tyres off that bike[i won the wheels!]they indicate to me that the bike was indeed ridden very hard, and i have no chance of fitting this rear wheel to my mc16 swingarm due to width of tyre
Sorry about that Mr ...
,I put a bid on the wheels as well, sorry they cost you a few more quid, still a bargin though.
The engine runs good ,but it's been so long since riding my NSR it might be well slow.
I'll see if it revs out in top,( on a closed private road he he !) if it does then it cant be too bad .I won@t hold it there long as thats when the old crank let go.
