Hi Guys,
Just started stripping down my project SP MC21. can someone confirm that i am understanding the detail in the tuning section correctly.
I have removed all the bodywork and found the pgm unit, this restricts the speed is that correct?
While following the wiring I came across a 1" 1/2 square black box with M/Max marked on it, does this mean that the bike has been derestricted?
The magtek wheels are in a sorry state visually, is it ok to shotblast them with fine sand to take them back to bare and also can someone advise me which is better, primer and powder coat or to spray paint, intended finish is going to be a satin black.
The PGM doesn't restrict the speed in itself, it's the ignition unit which takes input from the engine RPM, throttle position and gear selected to give an output to the coils which produce a spark at the right time. It has a different curve for each gear, and has been designed to restrict the power in the top couple of gears, as well as a circuit which restrictys the top speed.
Both of these can be bypassed. The speed restriction is bypassed with the M-Max, and the high gear retarding by doing a little mod to fool the PGM into thinking it neer gets above 3rd gear.
I have an HRC de-restrictor, which does both jobs at once. _________________ MC21SP Plaything

Not wanting to question your post, but are you sure you have Magteks? (Not saying you can't read or don't have an SP, of course - just asking!!) :)
If so, then even though there is only a small Mg content in them, the wheels do have a special primer applied to inhibit oxidization, different to that used on the standard Enkie type wheels.
Also, the paint applied to the Magteks is very thin, so you should be able to get away with lightly "keying" the surface (with say, "Scothbrite") rather than sand-blasting it.
If you do indeed have Magteks, then I would personally take them to a specialist shop, but if you have the standard pattern wheel, you can pretty much do what you like to them - pain, powdercoat, stove enamel.
Hi Andy,
Thanks for the concern about the wheels, yes they are magteks.
The color at the moment is white, but look very poor because the paint cover is peeling away in parts. The reason i say they are magtek wheels, is because it has magtek formed on the spoke which could only have been done when the wheels were manufactured. As regards to the bike being a sp, my conformation as to the validity of that is that everything matches the spec for the limited edition rothmans versions, frame numbers clarify this as well. With regard to the wheels, I take it that the original finish to the wheels would have been primer and paint finish, in which case that is the way to go.
If you have any info that I can look for that will absolutely satisfy the fact that this is a genuine sp, I would be grateful. I am 99.9% sure it is though.
