'21 electrical demon?

Fri Apr 13, 2007 7:14 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

hey gents, another day in nsr paradise ended with a ring-a-din-ding-pffffft Evil or Very Mad

Was out riding, everything running beautiful, when I noticed a battery smell, I was approx. 40 km's from home, so I decided to turn around home to check it out.

Got 3/4 of the way home, and every time I pulled up at lights, could smell battery. Next, the indicators started acting erradically, and the lighing on the guage cluster was pulsating/flashing.

Very close to home and now I've noticed the seat is quite hot Shocked (tyga tail, wiring is under seat), and the bike is starting to rev a little erradically. Got the bike home and it literraly stopped in the driveway.

Now, after letting it sit for a week, I've thrown the key in it, but the guage cluster does not illuminate, nor does the powervalve make its motor noise. Checked the battery, reading 12V, battery is 2 years old. checked battery connections and fuses, O.K.

Any idea whats cooked or whats the problem?

Any help would be hella appreciated, as the Melbourne winter is yielding sunny 26 degree C days in two week succesions, need a ride! Laughing

Check your rectifier. If you haven't mounted it correctly you could be getting those probs...

yeah might have to try that, i've got it mounted by one bolt to the subframe, however I did make a large thick alloy plate for it to sit on to soak up the heat, but in hindsight, I didnt put any electrical paste between the two.

As I remember the battery was VERY hot......

matt, paul, andy, any works of wisdom? Confused

Cheers gents

This search took 10 seconds!

http://nsr250.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4404&highlight=reg+rec

Covers checking, voltage, and mounting, all in one topic.

There are plenty more topics too, but if you can't be bothered to look it up, then neither can I.
