Progress has been a bit slow due to various projects for 'other' people, but it's getting there;
It's on the road now, and feels (in my very humble opinion) pretty darn good. It seems to have quite a high centre of gravity, so tips into turns very accurately and sharply, and also gives the impression of having quite alot of weight transfer, so it wheelies in 2nd off the throttle quite easily (that could be because I weigh 9 stone though).
Just needs a bit of tidying and the paint to finish it off.
Here's the dynograph from last friday, trying a size smaller main jets got a very healthy 70hp (considering the barrels are only lightly tuned);
and Andy told me that old lump wasn't good for a few horses, it should destroy a normal 250
Which makes it a worthwhile project in it's own right even if you're not an RD fan. _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
Thanks for the comments of encouragement I was thinking it'd be about 60hp..maybe 65 if I was lucky, so to find it makes 70 was something of a shock! Now I'm just hoping it lasts OK...
Here's your mudgaurd in place Fontyyy....(thanks again)

No-one's more surprised to see that graph than me Fontyyy. (Except maybe Steve!)
When you look at the figures produced by the myriad of bikes at the RD club's last dyno day, to say they were humiliated by the NSR300 is an understatement!
Hopefully the motor will be reliable (as reliable as an RD can be!), but at least it's no longer fitted to a rubber frame with wooden brakes!!
How it performs on the road or track compared to a good 250 remains to be seen though; the dyno graph doesn't mean it will destroy one. It's a heavy(ish) lump, and although I think Martin has done a superb job, there's no real telling how well it's suited or positioned in the chassis for handling and/or tractability.
Still, not wishing to take anything away from Martin, he's built a motor that looks like it's an arm-wrencher, and very cleanly installed it in a modern chassis that should at least give it a chance of going round corners and stopping! Just a shame about that fuel tank!! _________________ Andy.

Just needs something from a KR1 and you have the 'big four' all covered! _________________ MC21SP Plaything

Anyway, even if it's not as balanced or poised as a 250, the fact it makes over 20hp more at 8000 makes up for it, and the main point of it all is to make something enjoyable to ride.
Yes well done Martin. I'm also surprised.................... and very impresed, didn't think it was easy at all to get that sort of power from the ypvs. It will be a great bike I'm sure. Did you use the standard ignition and did you fit some of your own pipes? Is it the original pv control (looks like a bit of adjustment to the opening times might smooth things out a bit). My rose tinted spectacles of days gone by are now a shade or two darker!!!
Yep, completely bone stock 31K ignition, (though I have slotted the stator, it's still in the standard position) and PV controller. I plan to try adjusting the basic setting of the PV to see if it smooths out the flat spot, but to be honest, it's not really that noticable on the road.
Pipes are my own, designed from scratch, which seem to work well enough....
