MC16 price

Sat Aug 11, 2007 2:26 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Selling my 1987 MC16 now that its almost finished so that i can buy a mc18 or 21.

My freind who crashed the bike in the first place wants to buy it but also she wants a price.

Can anyone help me with a price for it as im unsure what to sell it for

i got it in good condition with 46000km on the clock for £400.

since then its mising the front lower fairings and the rear panel above the rear light. i have replaced the exhausts with mc18 ones. replaced all the water hosing and reconditiond the radiator. ive replaced the front suspension with CBR 400 nc23 front suspension. i have reconditioned the brakes and sorted the wiring ie new battry, new lights and modified the rc valve program to remove some of the flat spot at 7500rpm.

if it is missing the lower fairings and tailpiece then you would be lucky to get £400 on fleabay, I've seen standard '16s struggle to get more than £600 in good condition with a full years mot.

sorry, but '16s just don't command any money, I paid £450 for mine 2 years ago with a good quality paint job and 3 mths mot.

Fleabays rubbish anyway i wouldnt sell a bike on there anyway.

You have to give them money to sell it, people dont read the description (click to buy it then complain that they are getting a bike thats not just come out of the factory) and you get a crap price.

Althogh i have had some nice cheap bikes from fleabay in the past.

most places charge to advertise a bike, fleabay was just an example, still doesn't change the fact that '16s don't go for much money and half faired ones for less Wink

Ebay just reflects what someone will pay for a bike there and then, sought after stuff still fetches good money, £2600 for a nice MC21 (monkey's), £1700 for a non running mc28 without it's bodywork (now mine) spring to mind as recent examples.

don't sell it for any less than five hundred

Tue Aug 14, 2007 8:53 pm » Post: #6 » Download Post

if it doesn't owe you money don't sell it for less than £500.

don't be the man who says i once owned one of them and sold it for less than £500. its a honda, its an nsr, its quality and it's the daddy still.

okay not going strong in money now but aint no more being build, and people want cheap reliable bikes and populations are getting bigger. as colin edwards says, "do the math".

don't do it you'll be sorry. as the wise man said to me on this site...one nsr isn't enough and i know you haven't got another.

bite the bullet and sell you body instead and keep the bike. by the look of ebay at the moment it looks like very nice mc21s are going for cheap money one rednwhite 21r for £1300 and one very nice rothmans sp for 1600 (i think?) and that gold f3 went for £1700, it can't be right. you can't buy a decent scooter for that.

i paid good money of my mc16 (cos i wanted the daddy) and i've nailed it everywhere and only cost me a light service, a stinky smell, fuel tap fell off in the fairing and choke problems. i'd pay a couple of hundred extra for something i can ride tomorrow. yes it'll need work over the winter, but i don't need an excuse to fix something that isn't broken anyway.

let me know if you are giving it away though...best mate

In most cases stock bikes will out sell mod'ed ones. As Fontyyy once said, an NSR is it fairings. Stock fairings on a stock bike is what people want/look for.

How true. Look at your F3 Steve. That bike is priceless in parts, but worthless on eBay, as has been demonstrated twice now! Shocked

Well yeah, most wouldn't know what to do with it or how to look after it!

But it still didn't attract bids like a stock MC21SP would, and it's worth 4 of them! Very Happy

i want my 21r restricted

Wed Aug 15, 2007 6:48 am » Post: #11 » Download Post

i paid little money for my stock mc21r and was delighted that the bike was restricted as it came out of the factory cos i can play around with it myself, however the fairings showed a different story altogether.

i look for and suppose like many bike OCD people, stock bikes, simply because with my limited knowledge of mechanics if something breaks at least i don't have to spend time trying to identify what part it is from or figure out why the oem bearing doesn't fit what is no longer a standard bore or casing.

sadly though most people think that if it looks standard, then hopefully it has always been standard and standard bike have been looked after by men and women of the cloth and hopefully have never been raced and hopefully they are on to buy a prestine low mileage rocket for a snip..................dream on two strokes equals thrashed thrashed and then thrashed. i always expect a rebuild somewhere down the line.

standard is good but i'd settle for a trick 21 se/sp next and hope the prices remain like this so i can save the money pronto.

but the most important thing is riding the bike not fixing it, if you like it the other way around buy a brit classic, i know.

I had to read that paragraph about 4 times & came to the conclusion that you'd been on the drink before you wrote it Wink

How much do you think the F3 is worth?

I figure as she destroyed the bike originaly, thats the reason it has no fairing and nc23 front end, that she can pay full whack Razz also i cant tell the difference between the original and the nc23 front end ......

I allways get more than the bikes sell for on fleabay, sold it now for £700 not running and shes paying me the get her running basicaly replace a spark plug and cap.
