Hi forum, Dudes and Dudets. I have recently become a owner of a nice NSR250R MC18. I'm having problems with the one cylinder. Let me explain to you guys. When I ridding the bike and open the throttle to pull away the bike struggles to ride, but when I get to 6000rpm and until 12000rpm the bike rides OK, but only till it gets to 4th gear and then I seem to be losing power and can't shift up to 5th or 6th gear. When I ride the bike you can clearly see that the left pipe is working and the right pipe is not, but when I stop I can see that oil and petrol is coming out of the right pipe, it smells like petrol too. When I drive the bike it feels that that cylinder just wants to fire, but it does not, you can actualy feel the bike wanting to go faster. Both was firing at a previous occasion and this made me very scared as this is my first bike. I did put in brand new plugs as specified by the agents and a brand new battery.

I would really apreciate if someone could help me with this problem.

hi mate welcome to nsr250 ownership! im guessing the bike has been in storage or hasnt been used for a while. give the carbs a good clean as they can soon gum up pretty easy and get the float heights checked. if that doesnt work get the ignition checked over.

Hi there dude, thanks for the welcome. I asked around here at work and went home and done a test on the bike. I swoped the spark plugs and the one cylinder that was'nt firring was now firring and the other did not. The fools sold me a dead plug. Just swoped the plug and will put it in today. Will keep you posted on what happened and I will check the carb out and float levels.

What plugs did the agent specify for your bike?

Hi I'm another MC18 owner that had the same symptoms

I used to need to swap the plugs over quite regulary 'cause they kept oiling up at low revs.

Mine needed a top end rebuild, an airbox cover mod (and a new set of ignition pickups from Lings Honda helped as well.)

... and if you've tried to derestict it make sure you disconnect the correct cable (Thanks again Wayne, it's still flying!)

Hay there matt the plugs was a NGK B9ES but now I had the same problem again. I asked around and the guys here think that that side of the carb is flooding. I do not know how to fix this, just the guy said somthing about a main jet or float. I am going to take the spark plug out again today and clean it with petrol and then see if it works and if the same problem persists then I'm going to take the carb off. But I do not want to take it of before I do not know what the problem might be. A man does'nt like to go in to a situation blind, you know what I mean?

Is it the lower cylinder that is not firing?? My 18 would flood the lower cylinder when it sat for a while on the side stand. Try taking out the lower plug and kicking the bike over a few times with the key off. Reinstall the plug and see if it runs better. The plugs for an NSR are BR9ECM.
