hello everybody,
im back after the longest of absences while i was completing my engineering and now finally have time to get back to repairing my lovely mc 16. ( i love her so much i want to keep her and sell my VFR Interceptor !! )
1) the bike is running, but iit isnt accelerating cleanly and is giving me only 25mpg.
2) the bike revs up to the red line only in the first three gears , while never going above 7 to 8 thousand rpms in the higher gears even under full throtle. i cant do more than 125 km/hr. nomatter how long a stretch of road and at full throttle. i suspect one of the cylinders is misfiring and cuts of at higher rpms. could this be the reason it isnt revving and if so what could be affecting it.
3) what would be the best place to source parts for the mc 16,
especially engine components ( pistons, rings, oil seals, etc.)
thanks for stopping by and for all the help you can give,
happy biking! _________________ nothin like a two stroke kick up the backside..
I've used Tyga for a topend rebuild kit. Can use 18 parts. The others source for parts is yahoo japan.....sorry dont have the link handy but a search of this forum will turn it up quick enough.
thanks canuck13 , i found the site for tyga. i think you have just saved me a pocketfull. a supplier was going to give me those very same parts at a cost of 25 grand indian rupees which works out to more than 300 pounds!!!!
thanks again.
thanks andy, the information about the cdi will sure come in handy.
will keep all posted.
happy riding fellow 2 strokers _________________ nothin like a two stroke kick up the backside..
I would've thought that for someone considering a career in motorcycle engineering, and owning a classic (i.e. 20+ year old) 2-stroke, the idea of trying to repair parts that are long discontinued and most likely unavailable (or at least disassembling and inspecting the components) would've been rather appealing? _________________ Andy.

hey!!! if anything these four years of graduation has taught me then its to have more than one plan......so......in case i am unable to solder the cdi back into running condition i wanted to know where i could procure the parts from............
alright, now that im done with my lame justification il admit to not having the faintest clue about the practical aspects, which is why my poor mc16 has languished for a year ( yes, shame on me) .....
but i intend on rectifying that soon......but for now, im not keen on buggering the job up by doing it myself.....
so dont fret andy, in a years time il be here answering questions rather than asking............ _________________ nothin like a two stroke kick up the backside..
Just my strange way of encouraging you to get inside the boxes!
The thing is, you are going to find it harder and harder to find MC16 parts simply due to the age of the bikes. Like I say, Honda discontinued the spare parts (about 10 years ago) so you will need to resort to more and more self-repair solutions.
We are all going to be in the same boat as many classic owners soon, where we will need to commission special runs of parts or modify components from other makes and models to keep the bikes running! Remember, even the last MC28 that was built will still be 12 years old, and Honda officially discontinued support for it 2 years ago. 12 years is a long time for people to have already bought up many of the spares for them! _________________ Andy.
