Bike Security

Fri Nov 28, 2008 10:03 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hey everyone,

I was just wondering if there are any good immobilisers out there that will stop thieves from hotwiring my bike. I had my bike stolen but luckily it was found pretty quickly, the reason being that they couldnt start it and dumped it. I was lucky because they only blew a fuse when trying to hotwire it. Are there any systems that can allow me to immobilise the bike remotely? Im not nescessarily after an alarm system, but rather something that will make my bike useless if the immobiliser is on.
Any suggestions are appreciated. I have an MC28 by the way.

The MC28 already has the best security in my opinion. It will never start without the card!

That's better than any immobiliser, as all immobilisers can be bypassed. They are, after all, an aftermarket addition to the electrical system. Anything added to a system can be removed! Without a Honda card to actuate the PGM-IV, it's useless unless a new card is programmed for it.

If someone steals an MC28, to start it they will need to strip the entire harness and fit a PGM-II or PGM-III, or order a new card from Honda/HRC, not something that's easily done a few hundred metres up the road in a couple of minutes! Very Happy

I would say you can be assured far less MC28's have been stolen than any other 250, let alone any other NSR. The worst thing is I've heard that on more than one occasion, frustration at not being able to start an MC28 has lead to it being torched to try and remove any forensic evidence of the person(s) who attempted to steal it.

One other thing, and this may seem unbelievable to some, but a simple flashing small red LED somewhere highly visible that activates when the ignition is off is actually a very good deterrent to many casual theives.

Branded LEDs like the ones Clifford use are a bad example however, as it tells the professional thief what system he is dealing with before they even start!

Probably best off with a "tracker" style system, if there's one available for bikes?

You can't sit guard on it 24/7 though!

Again though, what if you're on a ride out or a stop-over somewhere, and the bike's left unattended for an hour or two, or even overnight? Can't strap the dog on the back!! Wink

If I were Andre and had a .357 magnum, and someone had a barking dog next door tied to their bike, it's not the casual thief that would need to worry if it was making too much noise at 4am! ROTFLMAO

Just a question about the card, i dont know anything it, where is it, etc... etc... Is it used as a key or is it something that you can quickly take out?
The more details the better.
Thanks
