Need to replace my front for seals. They are the orginals still, so they have had a good innings.

Question is, what fork oil should be used ? Should i maybe use a thicker oil to stiffen it up, or is that not recomended ?

Personally I use 10w fork oil and reduce the air gap by 5mm. Then again I'm fat.

If the dust seals are ok and you're only looking to replace the seals you can use the HRC fork oil seal (part # 91255-MN8-741). These retail at £2.31 per leg compared to the NSR fork seal set (part # 51490-MN8-305) that retails for £17.55 per leg.

AT the moment I'm running 15wt oil with a splash of some heavy duty Harley stuff thats like 25wt or something silly! I'm 76KG and only use it as a race bike so it could be a diffferent story on the road!!

Careful all those with an MC28/300 is all I can say!

Back on topic though, if you are racing and using the OEM forks, then it could pay you to use the HRC oil seals Steve mentioned and leave the dust seals off entirely. This is the RS and F3 setup, and naturally produces less friction on the stanchion, and consequently a smoother, more responsive dampening movement of the forks.

Is there any other benifit of using HRC seals ?
Its a street bike, and i weigh 77 without jacket and helmet.

The HRC seal can be fitted just like the OE one. There is no performance gain. You do save almost £30 though.

Ive found someone to do them for me for 70 dollars a fork, which sounds reasonable. Seals are 30 dollars a set, so once again, sounds reasonable to me.

So how do you guys support the bike with no forks in it ? I was thinking about using a ratchet strap from the top triple clamp or the chassis to the roof of the shed.

Is there a better way to remove the forks. IE wheel off, calipers off, then take them out ? Or is it easier to remove the calipers, and remove both forks and the wheel as one unit ?

And finally, while it is apart, are the sterring stem bearings simple to change, or do they need to be pressed off and on ?
