Is my M21 worth fixing?

Fri Mar 20, 2009 2:21 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi Guys,

After alot of reading here in NSR-World i found out that most nsr riders here intend to have thier nsr in a very mint condition possible. Made me wonder is it still worth fixing my problematic nsr? or should i just get a new/second hand one?

My Bike Current Problem:

Top or Left cylinder had lost compression(air pressure)
Which will be needing new piston and piston rings.

Carbs are not configured properlly

RC Valve is not working.

Leaking oil from exhaust.

Chain somehow rubbing to my exhaust. Shocked (The clicking sound)

Parts won't be an issue because every small bits of parts are still available
in Hong Kong. But since am not really a mechanic.. it would cost alot
to recondition my bike. so i came to a conclusion that i have to make a choice. Fix or Buy or just stay with Yamaha TZR??

What do you guys think?

A lot of the work you don't need to be a mechanic to do, stuff like taking the tank and fairing off, taking the radiator hoses, thermostat and radiator off, taking the airbox and carbs out and unbolting the RC valve pulleys. This means that all the mechanic will have to do is remove the cylinders, change the pistons and put the cylinders back on.

Then you put it all back on... without having to have the mechanic charging you for spending 3 hours pulling it all off and putting it all back on...

If you are unsure about how things went, take heaps of pics with your Digital camera, and refer to them when putting it back together.
You should be able to get a cheap socket set at an auto place, and some spanners (8, 10, 12 and 13 should do) and two screwdrivers (philips and straight) and some needle nose plairs.

And get the pistons fron tyga... their prices are good Very Happy (its a good idea to do both at once, so that you know both are good)
Your toolkit may already have some of this...

Since you're not that good in wrenching bikes, if you can sell it close to what you paid for i would just sell it and buy a running bike instead of missing riding time. Smile
