single sided swingarms on an mc18?

Sun May 10, 2009 6:53 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

wondered if the swing arm from the nc24 would be a good fit?
could then use the nc30 hub assembly to fit an rvf or mc28 wheel???
anyone have any views??

I know an NC30 swingarm has been grafted onto an 18 in the past, I believe there were some issues with lining up the shock mounts but it was so long ago and I can't remember properly, some of the other older members may be able to give you some info.

cheers andy, knew you'd have answers.
think the nc24 swinger will be a better bet than the nc30 as the shock tunnel isn't off set as the exhaust doesn't run behind the right foot peg.

And then you're stuck with a pig-ugly 4-bolt 18" rear wheel!

Why not just source an MC28 arm off Yahoo! Auctions or TYGA? Personally I don't know what all the fuss is about! Laughing

It's a bit chunky, the hub's ugly, and the spokes aren't quite the same style as the later NSR's either.

It looks fine on an NC24 I guess, but it's all a bit Heath Robinson to be fitted to a nice lightweight MC18.

Yeah the 4 bolt VFR one isn't very pretty but the normal NSR/NC30 one isn't what you'd call cool either is it.

If you going to fit one it needs to look like this!

See what I mean? Who wants a axel that looks like that?

They were doing it right. Then at the last stage decided, no, instead of threading the stub and fitting a nice nut we'll cut the end off, add a through bolt, make a loads of spacers and washers and fit a cheap nut to the end.

that's why i was thinking of using the nc30 hub/axle in the nc24 swing arm , as far as i know the hubs are the same size and the parts are cheap and readily available.

well i've so far managed to get hold of an nc24 swing arm and an nc30 rear wheel for the grand total of nowt. just need to mount the rear wheel which will require the four bolts removing and replacing with mounting pins, so i may have to get hold of an nc30 hub instead
.
the nc24 swing arm has the shock centally mounted ( not off set like the nc3) so think it will mount in my mc18 frame without to much fiddling!

does any one know how wide the mc18 swing arm is at the pivot where it mounts to the frame, or has one loose they could measure?
