MC18 as a parts bike for MC21

Tue Sep 01, 2009 12:19 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Found a cheap MC18 in pieces in the tradingpost

Wondering if it's worth picking up as spares for my MC21.

I'm guessing the engine and gearbox are straight swap, carbies etc.

Is it worth picking up, or not enough parts match up to bother?

Well, you pretty much nailed it on the head... it's worth the motor, and that's about it!

Odds on are that the forks will be non-adjustable, there's not much point in having a second set of carbs really, and apart from the front wheel what else is of use?

If you can buy it cheaper than a spare motor and you really need a spare motor, then it's probably worth it. If you are buying it for the sake of spending money, then I would just buy the bits you need individually. You will only end up trying to find some way of disposing of the parts that are no good to you, or having them clutter up your garage/shed/kitchen/bedroom 'til the of time like the rest of us else.

Thanks Andy.

I'll keep an eye on it and decide whether it's worth the cost of a spare motor
