Crankshaft rebuilt

Thu Sep 03, 2009 9:03 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi!

I was having problems with lean running so i decided to do an airleak test.

Before i fill the left inlet manifold with air i sprayed some carb spray in the right inlet on the reeds and then blanked it with a cap.

After that i filled the left hole with air and after a while i pulled the cap from the right hole and saw lots of bubbles on the reeds.

I believe its a very easy way to see if air passes trought halves.

So i am holding the crank in my hands like a baby (a heavy one) Laughing. and i
am wondering what to do...

The best is to fit a new one i know but nowadays with all that knowledge and with all that bearings maybe the situation has changed.

Is it possible to succesfully rebuilt the crank without sideffects?

What about rods etc?

Has anyone rebuilted with no problems?

Any responce and infos would be great and much appreciated!

Thanks..

My crank is rebuilt. You will wreck the outer bearings removing them to replace the centre one though. Do all three, they aren't expensive, and you should be able to get them from mixalisen by PM'ing him.

Yes i am waiting my bearings from mixalisen too...

I just wanted to hear your opinions because i'm afraid about the work that must be done assemble-dissasemble of parts of the crank...

Its obvious that someone with lots of experience must do this job to be succesfull and avoid problems in the future but who can i trust i dont know...

the crank dissasembled is like the picture you have in the workshop/technical resources/crank specs?

Pretty much. That one's an HRC crank, but it's similar.

Is the centre oil seal part of the center bearing or does it need to be bought seperate?

On the MC21 and MC28 it is integral, but on the MC16 and MC18 it's a separate seal.
