Some of you may have read my track day story where I had fun all day going faster and faster until I was really honking along in top gear on the straights, pushing as far as I dare. Then near the end of the day the engine seized on me (twice ) at the end of the 1750 foot straight. The spark plugs don't look like I was running lean (I will post pics asap) and have started the tear down.

I am running Castor 927 oil at a 40:1 ratio. Maybe I should switch to something better? More oil in the mix? If I have to go through this now at the beginning I don't mind - I love running the bike and would like to do that for a long time, so if I have to go through this engine rebuild to learn to do it the correct way so be it.

I'll continue to post notes and photos during the tear down process. Stay tuned. Please help me set this bike up so I'm not seizing it every time I run down a straightaway at full bore!

30:1 is closer to the mark as well as what is recomended by HRC.

Any reason for the castor oil other than you love stripping the bike apart to remove all the gum?

It could actually be in public discussion, thinking about it. It's only specific setup discussion (i.e. talking about jet sizes and engine configurations) that I don't want in public.

The guy before me ran that oil and recommended it. Should I immediately switch to Honda oil while looking for something better? (that's probably the only alternative the local shop has).

Also, thanks for mentioning the slightly thicker gasket. I was going to ask what I need to do to prevent this from happening again. Does Tyga offer that?

It's unlikely that your problem (on an effectively stock bike) will be rectified with a thicker base gasket. Best thing to do is list the full specifications in the Setup Forum in the Members Area first.

I'd be more inclined to sort the oil injector or premix ratio and use a decent fully synthetic 2-stroke oil. You must have a dirt bike shop near you somewhere? They'll sell the best oils you can get locally. Even the Honda shop will more than likely only sell semi-synthetic.

Don't use "the local shop" then, buy something proper, Castrol TTS $6.75, half a litre isn't very much, get several bottles.

It smells nice too! Not as nice as A747, but nowhere near as expensive either.

I'd be inclined to ask Craig at Redline if he can do 2x 4ltr bottles (and a piston/rings/base gasket etc.), and mention you're an NSR-WORLD.COM Ti Member in case you are eligible for a discount on that stuff! When the first bottle runs out, order a second... you'll never run out then!

i use to run A747 in my rz350 ,smells great it was hard to get over here about 6 years ago the only ones that had it were cart shops and $40 au.
Now u can get it nerely everywhere $29au ,tts $20-$25au. so not much dearer + caster oil burns well unlike a synthetic hence the slight performance gain.

Figured I'd post again - I discovered Red Line carried the good Castrol oil so it's on the way for testing in the race bike and I'll also use it in the street bike as well for good insurance.

If your street bike uses a pump you should not use A747 oil as this is only for premix!

Since one bike is premix and the other is injected, I ordered one bottle of A747 and two bottles of TTS. Looks like the race bike may have to be premix for a while though since I have to now look for the washer that goes under the oil pump driveshaft.

Once you've discovered the smell of A747 you'll have a hell of a time going back to even TTS, regardless of what a pain it is to pre-mix on the street. And for Heaven's sake, don't run AVGAS/A747 or you'll need to run it forever after! Nothing smells quite like it!
