hrc jet kit + piece repair

Fri Oct 09, 2009 5:10 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi guys i`m sorting out a jet kit for my mc21 i`ve got a + piece but it`s brocken . now looking at the hrc + piece and the original + piece the only difference seems to be the jet that`s open to air . So can i swap the jet over from the hrc one to the standard one . Does any one know if there are other differences.
Cheers

Yes the X is the same its only the jet inside it that differs.

Couldn't the plastic bits be fabricated at a plastics place if they had a original, or possibly an equivalent be found at a automotive/carb shop? The jets are common Keihin parts, so re-creating a full jet kit should be doable, correct?

i though of that i was thinking of seing it i can get some jet kits made. Getting the the air jets right is the main thing . i don`t think it would be imposible but the cost of the first set would be the prob that`s if you got first set right . To be worth it you would have to sell a lot of kits . Maybe Matt at tyga has already looked into it or has though of it. lot cheaper do do that sort of stuff in tailand than hear in australia .Thats why we even import fruit , send our cows over sea`s and buy them back choped up . damn piss weak goverment.[/u]

It's also about the needles and the emulsion tubes... ask Fontyyy! Wink

Alternative jet kits certainly have been thought about before, trust me!

The emulsion tubes seem to be the holy grail part. I can't make heads or tails of the needle part numbers, or even figure out which type would be a direct replacement.

http://www.motorcyclecarbs.com/KEIHIN_N427-48_OEM_Jet_Needle__W252C1274.cfm.

Anyone with ideas on how to decipher this? I don't have any extra needles to check the numbers against.

Making the plastic joints is easy......but costs a fortune if you want to go the plastic injection route.

Other thoughts would be casting PVC, alloy or brass parts. I've been machining some alloy molds recently for various carbon projects and I don't think it's too tricky to make a simple mold for these joints....Hmmmm.

Anyhow, I've just come up with a potentially cheaper solution, but I'll have to speak to my mate first.

Needles are a big problem. I had another mate carefully measure all the needles I have for various NSR's (stock and HRC) from the year dot, but trying to come up with a match is very difficult. At least I have the dimensions now and know somewhere that will make them, but not exactly cost effective for a small batch.

Other jets such as mains, pilots, pwrjets etc are easy to get.

Hi matt
Instead of getting the X and Y pieces mate looking at stock and hrc ones the only difference seams to be the jets inside. So if you match the jets and just make replacement jets to put in stock X and Y pieces that should work it would be easy to test and get them to have correct air flow.
the emulsion tubes would be easy .That leaves the needles if can get the tappers of the hrc ones lenght. single, double or triple taper ?then it would be easy to get them made up.
I think most owners would like a kit, people are paying $300-600 for the hrc ones when avaliable .

Concerning the X & Y pieces. Yes, it's simply a different jet size. But.....the majority of people (myself included) would rather just change the whole piece rather than mess around pulling old jets out and pressing new jets in, only to then break the piece and be worse off then when they started.

Jets would be removable so that people like Stephen can play with them.

Mold is designed, just gotta make it and cast the parts up.

That would be perfect Matt... HRC kit is i think one of the most desireble modifications for the NSR... I think you will be able to sell a respectable amount of them...

Cheers
