Side stand switch cut-out _ quick question

Thu Apr 15, 2010 7:14 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if the side stand switch on MC21's are supposed to kill the engine if the stand is down and the bike is put into gear? The orange light works OK to indicate the stand is down, & it it goes out when the stand is up. Is it supposed to do anything else?

Sorry if it's an existing topic - need to know asap for a roadworthyness inspection.

I'm soooo close to getting it finished.

It lives - it goes - will The Man let me ride it?

Regards

Scott

I have this problem also.

Light works fine but it doesn't kill the engine.

Is there some wire that could be cut by a previous owner that would let the light work but the engine cutoff not?

Mine does it with the wire splice in place. Try undoing the wire splice.

I'm glad I used bullet connectors instead of hard wiring.

Mine kills the bike when it is in gear.

I think for a RWC, they will expect it to happen regardless of the bike, unless you have one of those fancy Italian self retracting stands.

It's the green/white wire that goes to the pgm that worries me......

What's the worry about that wire? Has it been spliced permanently to ground so the PGM thinks it is always up?

I don't know, but the green earth wire, and yellow/green warning light wire circuits are obviously ok. It's just when the one remaining option disapears into the black box...... I'll have a good check tomorrow, but will probably try changing out the switch first.

Just for the record; RWC in Victoria.

After swapping out numerous components between bikes, and acheiving the same result, I get a call from the vehicle inspector informing me that he's now found out that an NSR doesn't have this function, the manufacture year was just prior to this as an ADR (Aust. Design Rule) requirement, and therefore it's not a roadworthyness requirement in Victoria.
