Been a member for years but haven't posted or really used it, so am basically a newbie.
I am in the process of starting a rebuild project on my NSR. I remember the fun that I used to have on the little Movistar Repsol machine but left that in the back corner of the shed for the past 7 years after she seized up and I bought a new toy - 2002 VTR SP2.
I love my SP2 and although it doesn't make any difference with adding Kms on it (given the quality of HRC), I want to not have something else to take out. That being said, I did an impulse buy and bought a 2000 VTR SP1. Another HRC masterpiece but if I'm being honest, I am missing my NSR.
I bought the NSR blind from a guy in Adelaide 10 years ago. I got it back and it had issues from the start for a while. Had to replace the jets, do a top end rebuild, have the crank reconditioned and then it came good.
I learnt how to ride on my NSR and what a Learn bike it was. I remember hitting the Great Ocean Road and I was chaining the corners with a black 999 duc trying to catch. It never happened and right then I knew that the bike was very special.
Over the years it was with a mechanic that seems to always give it back with more problems that it arrived with and this was costing me money. I guess this was another reason that it has been tucked away for so long. The last time I picked it up, I rode home and it bucked me off the seat in the rain in the middle of an intersection but I managed to save. There was no oil and it seized!
But since Facebook and all of the Two Stroke pages, I have been attending events and now have this on my 'goal list' for 2016.
I am looking forward taking on feedback and guidance from you experts as well as getting in and doing some of the work myself. I am as mechanically minded as a dancer with two left feet but am a thinker, so always work it out.
I have a TYGA race kit, full TYGA stainless system with Carbon Cans. HRC Jet kit, TYGA rear sets and a limited NSR250R SP!! So that's "3" SP's in the garage.
Wondering about a J3 HRC engine and if this will be able for registration in Australia. If not, maybe this will just be my tracker.
But I want to bring this back to be a Rothmans Special. Ideally If I can get a 500 into this frame, that would be my end goal but for now, I want a Rothmans special on the road.
Good luck with the restoration/build, and great to see another "lurker" begin posting! It's really appreciated!
In my humble opinion, if the bike is indeed an 1993 SP, I would consider returning it to the HRC Special Edition colours. You know that's the rarest NSR250 of them all, right? Only 800 HRC SPs were ever turned out by the factory!
Everyone loves a Rothmans... even the Suzuki guys, but considering Honda only made 1500 Rothmans SPs, it's amazing how many have them! LOL _________________ Andy.

Haha, thanks Andy.
Been watching everyone getting their groove on, so decided to get mine in order.
Regarding the bike. The VIN confirms the bike type and I only realised this last week (after 10 years of having it), that it was a very special bike. I thought there were 900 made worldwide?
I am trying to track the OEM fairings but it is impossible! The attached is what I wasn't to bring it back to and yeah, it'll look sexy as hell and be a real 'limited' bike once done! _________________ Cheers

Hi all,
So the rebuild is now in full swing and fortunately, I have stumbled across a Gold Mine in Melbourne!
A fully decked out MC28 with loads of premium parts, new and barely used. So I've been buying like crazy and most of these will be going into this bike.
So far I've managed to pick up:
MC28 Rear Magtek Wheels
HRC flywheel & stator Excellent condition, RARE!
HARC-PRO forced airbox
RS250R coils BRAND NEW
HRC reed stuffers BRAND NEW
HRC reed valves BRAND NEW
HRC reed spacers BRAND NEW
GP500 tinted windscreen BRAND NEW
Full TYGA GP500 set (including lower, upper, seat cowling, upper stay, number plate holder, rear tail light
Custom Billet aluminium upper triple clamp in silver NEW
Sensai Racing Billet aluminium clamps with carbon fibre handles in silver (handle-bars) NEW
mc28 rothmans tank with key
With loads more goodies to come!!
I also grabbed a perfect MC28 Red Tank and Cap which I managed to on-sell to invest back into this project.
I have also sourced from my contact in Japan, a FULL MC28 ROTHMANS KIT (with Tank) in "MINT" Condition and this is coming too!
Other purchases are an MC21 NSR250R Magtek Gold Rear Wheel
An MC28 Brand New Single-Sided Swingarm - In case I want to do the conversion, I have the wheel to boot.
I'm also looking at some MC21 HRC Carbs and possibly a 300CC Engine on the way.
So the project is coming along very nicely. EXPENSIVE!!! haha
So the bike has been sent off for inspection to have the engine stripped, hydro-blasted and then piecing back together.
First the bike needed to get on the truck. Realised at a late stage the ramp was at 55-60 degree angle but given the NSR weighs 'not much', I got it up no problem.
Even though the chambers were close to scratching, a quick lift and push, we was on. Getting off of the ute was a little trickier.
The engine was sent off to be blasted - relatively CHEAP process and look at the results.
I honestly nearly fell off of my chair on this one and am really pleased with the results. I'll need to do this to my other Spare MC28 Engine that @James Mansfield said "Did you find in a creek".
I also have some awesome Rothmans Panels with a few war wounds. Now on the hunt for some OEM White Panels knowing the 'white' is the plastic colour and NOT Paint. So if I spray my panels, there will be a fibrous difference in the plastic to the paint. Not what I'm after. This means this will take some time, so instead I will get my TYGA GP500 Kit on and sprayed. Now just to find an MC21 tank to get sprayed.
