No Brake Lights MC21

Sun Mar 04, 2018 3:11 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Really hoping for a simple solution on this one ... but I don't have any brake lights. Tail parking lights come on, signals work, but neither the front nor rear brake lever will activate the brake lights. I've got the tail fairing off and don't see anything unplugged. Continuity check doesn't show any current coming through the plug when the brake levers are depressed (good current check on the parking lights). Bulbs are good. Fuses are good. What do I check next?

Thanks!

Are you sure that the brake lights arent just on all the time? I had a similar problem where i thought neither the foot lever or front brake lever would turn on the brake lights. Turns out the foot brake switch was adjusted too tight and making the brake light always on.

I would go with todd's check. If the lights are switched off, I don't think the tail light should be lit. You could disconnect the rear brake switch and see if the brake light goes out, then try the front brake

Thanks guys, I appreciate the responses. I'll check again, but only one filament is illuminated when the parking lamps are turned on and everything turns off when selected so I don't think that's the problem, but it's worth another look.

Of course. I go to SpeedWerks all the time. In fact I have had them repaint/repair two MC21 tanks for me and bought two sets of fairings. I almost bought an MC21 from Tim (Moto2) but we had some......issues. Bought my first NSR from Deftone Cycles in Ohio and imported the second myself from Japan.

Yeah, I got my bike from Tim, I think I was his first customer lol. Steve did the restoration. He asked me where I got the bike so I gave him Tim's contact info and the rest is history. Shoot me a PM if you'd like to get together and ride at some point when the weather starts to warm up, assuming I ever get these stupid brake lights working again.
