opinions on new reed valves?

Sun Feb 10, 2019 3:01 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Just holding my reed cage up to the light I can see the reeds are not sealing on their own....any opinions on whether or not they need replacing

I guess it might seem obvious that they do but I did not know if the primary compression was pushing back form the inside of the motor and causing them to seal anyway?

Not to mention I cant find a part number of the parts fiche so assume Honda wanted to sell the whole block....seems a stretch with such a consumeable part?

The reeds are avaialble on there own. I ordered and received a set last year, there were fairly cheap too.

That helps a lot thanks

So I guess the reeds are the same across the MC18-28..... and only the manifold and stuffer design changed from MC18 to MC21/28?

Yes, the reeds are effectively the same for all NSR250s, and most NF5s. As you say, only the rectifiers (stuffers) differ.

The reeds not closing will mainly effect the starting and low rpm running.
If they've gone a little soggy then there's a chance of fluttering at high speed, which isn't good.
In the (very) short term you could try flipping them over, but best to replace.

Matt.
