Fri May 29, 2020 3:35 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

I just found 4 Brand New NGK CR9EIX Iridium spark plugs in a drawer while cleaning up the room. Can I use these in my MC28?

BR9ECM (and R5300A-95)

Personally, I've never seen anything to justify the cost of iridium plugs. BR9ECM work perfectly and last forever, so long as you don't flood them. Even so, I can categorically say, in 25 years, I've never had [or seen] one fail. I'm sure they have, for someone somewhere, but it's certainly not something forums are filled with, and I believe it's pretty much the standard plug for all the 90s 2-stroke race reps.

Edit: As above, all 90s NSR/RGV/RS/TZR

where do ye buy the BR9ECM from? Im just worried that running the iridium plugs will make the cylinder run hotter and possibly cause detonation. especially with all the cylinder problems i have been having.

I went to a local main dealer who also turned out to be cheapest.

Exactly this^^^^^^^, nothing wrong with the BR9CEM, and easy enough to get hold of, although I ran the R5300A in mine for several years with no problems, the only downfall with these is they are about £45 a pop, if you can find them, I am lucky to have a good stash, as these are the recommended plug for the NF5, so I have been accumulating them over the years.

Here in US you can get them at most auto parts stores. I use a shorty plug on my front cylinder. I found a place over in England called the green spark plug. They sell just about any kind of plug you could imagine. Not cheap, but when you need a really odd one, they can get it.
