Mc18 cylinder

Sat Jan 09, 2021 8:23 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Recently i found that one of the cylinders died. There is very little smoke coming out from one of the exhausts, and that exhaust is cold. Anyone knows where I can get a new cylinder?

Have you looked into getting your existing cylinder replated? That would be the first thing to try. New old stock cylinders are fairly rare and expensive

I haven't heard about cylinder replating. But I just did a quick research online and it seems like it requires professional work. I'm not sure if I can do this myself. I asked my mechanic and he said he hadn't done this before.

Cylinder plating needs to be done by a specialist company, here in the UK you could count on one hand companies capable of doing this. It involves cleaning the old cylinder and re nikasil the surface. Are you sure this is the problem, when you say the cylinder has died, do you mean it's not firing, ie spark, have you looked at all the obvious, ie plug, coil, etc. If you google Nikasil cylinder replating, you should be able to find a company that does it. Normally, if your cylinder needs replating you will need a new piston as well, so the replating company will need the new piston as well. One of the big problems of owning such a machine like this, is, nowadays modern mechanics have no experience of these engines, and some probably wouldn't have ever heard of Nikasil. Try to find a two stroke tuning specialist, or talk to Rising Sun Cycles, these should point you in the right direction. Good luck.

If that don't sort him out Andy, nothing will, I have my doubts that this is the problem though.
