Hello everyone,
Finally got my nsr all built, chuffed site has been a great help.
All oils, fluids and petrol in.
Tried to start it no chance.
Towed it slowly behind my car bumped it fired up lovely
Went round the block a couple of times no problems.
Stopped the bike did some of the normal checks all seems fine.
Bike kickstarted no problem for the rest of the afternoon.
Following day went to start her up could not get her to fire up off the kick start. Bump started her down the hill fired first bounce on the seat.
Again checked it through the day kickstarted fine.
Following day exactly the same.
Would appreciate any input on how to resolve the problem.
I'd suspect the battery too. Check it's output with the engine off. _________________ MC21SP Plaything

Martyn,a few of us will be doing a trackday at Llandow on the 30th and we are trying to sort out a ride out that evening but need to know of a good route to take,as your local do you fancy poping down to the trackday and taking us out as you know the aera?
This sounds the same as the starting problems Iam having with my nsr, If it has not been used for a day or two it can be a bitch to start. I have fitted a new battery and plugs but still no joy, but what I have found is spraying some easy start into the lower cylinder plug hole helps and it normally starts in 2 or 3 kicks!I have even squirted a small amount of pre-mix into the barrell with a syringe and it has the same effect!I dont know why this works as I would have thought fuel not mixed with air would just foul the plug but it seems to do the trick!
Thank you all,
Nsr monkey:Yes I do turn the fuel off and the battery is brand new.
Dave Ett: As above output seems fine.
Nsr Wayne : I tried to get the nsr ready for the last trackday at llandow but was delayed with Rothmans decals from various places. In some respects having now ridden the nsr i'm glad. First blast around the block I scared myself stupid and having never done a track day would have made a complete T**T of myself and probably binned it. However I will help in anyway I can with sorting a route out for a ride out from llandow and I will also get down to the trackday to find out what its all about. What are you looking for within the route. How long timewise, distance, road types etc. Hope I can be of some help.
PaulG; What is easy start ignore my ignorance.
BTW: Back to the starting issue. This is the first time the bike has run in at least a year. Mods include, drilled holes in air box, mmax box on it when I got it and I have also added tyga chambers and silencers. All electrics seem fine. Have not touched carbs or jetting, I am thinking with the air box and mmax mods this would have been done previously. Would I benefit by putting it on a dyno to make sure it is all set up properly. I am no bike mechanic and am learning as I go. Having got it to this stage (that is from a complete bag of spanners to something resembling a really nice bike) I do not want to ride it really hard and blow it up. ADVICE PLEASE
Definitely get it to a dyno, even if it's only for a print-out. We can then have a look at it and try to help.
I'd start by dismantling and cleaning the carbs properly, then ensure the correct jetting is there, as well as the mixture screw setting.
Honda's in general don't seem to like old fuel in the carbs, and whenever I've left mine standing, I always drain the float bowls off before trying to start it. Saves a lot of sweat!
Have you checked the coil contacts? As on another current thread, they can open up and cause pitting. This will reduce the voltage available, making the spark weaker.
Once you've done that lot, get back to us! _________________ MC21SP Plaything

Easy start is an aerosol which contains "a mixture of volatile aromatics which ensure initial firing under artic conditions" basically you are supposed to spray it in the air intake of your car to aid cold starting, most autostores and garages sell it for about £3. its not curing the problem but working around it but it seems to work with my bike and it beats kicking it over about 50 times.Like I said I just spray a bit in the lower cylinder through the plug hole and it fires up in the first couple of kicks!bit of a bodge but it works for me!
Anybody suggest a dyno, possibly the one you used after the trackday, theres nothing down this way. I dont mind travelling and my missus has family in plymouth(if i recollect thats where you went on the saturday), can anyone give me the name and phone number please.

Martyn the best thing to do is turn up at the trackday as you said you would and we can sort out what everyone wants to do then, just have a few plans as to were we can go.
