Stroke is the length of the rod, meaning how much movement the damper will allow. Too little and it becomes the steering lock - not good (nor allowed in racing). Too much and it may interfere with other bits of the bike.
I don't know the length, and to be honest you don't need it. _________________ MC21SP Plaything

Monkey, Cant answer your question, but i have one on my MC18 , if the 21 has it in the same place, weather you want one or not the fecking thing gets in the way....try before you buy. If you can!
I was thinking of picking one up too because my friend said it would increase stability on the highway. Is that the only thing it does? Can you feel a difference on the street? Why do most people have it?

I didn't have one on. Not on an ns250 though. But anyway, I just hit a small bump on the hi-way and it just "tank slapped". A "tank slapper" or "Head shake" is when the steering just violently shakes from left to right, Usually caused by the miss-landing of the rear wheel or the front. there are certain ways to correct it. A steering damper is a definite vote in my account
nsrmonkey, rc46 is right, the damper gets in the way. It takes more than a 2 lane street to make a U-turn. But it feels great to have one on. _________________ ride it like a horse

If the NSR is tank slapping on the street, you probably have some other issues, like bearings, tyres or suspension setup. They really aren't needed for 99% of riders / bikes.
They also should not restrict the steering - that what lock stops are for. If they do, you need a longer one!
How about inventing an electric one using eddy current braking Monkey? _________________ MC21SP Plaything

LOL, Actually the 18 just sold on ebay this afternoon i got my buy it now price, which makes a change. The 18 has the damper on the left hand side, connected to frame and then left hand fork leg, when i do left hand locks (could be the clip ons , they are not standard) it traps my fingers if im not careful. It dosent seem to turn all the way either so u turns are no go. Also when i got the bike the damper was dialed in. I backed it all the way off for cadwell as you just cant feel whats going on at the front. Never had a shake once... and if i can add i also had one on my SB6 which shaked its head loads of times but i still took it off as feedback on the road and track was vastly improved when it was taken off....Monkey try one first, I think youll change your mind. They may look cool, but you could put some of that dosh to braided hoses, or modded airbox, maybe some nice clip ons.
I second that. If you're getting serious shake like that then you've got a problem.
I've ridden my NSR on numerous tracks and the only one where I 'needed' it was one with elevation changes and bumps. There's a particular section where you have to transition the bike up the hill and ... anyway to cut a long story short, the experienced racers say you don't 'need' the steering damper, it just makes some people who are squeemish a little bit more confident, as it eliminates some scary feeling.
Only time I've noticed a serious improvement from a steering damper was on the same circuit in the same place but on a CBR600RR with very little trail set up for a heavier rider. It would wheelie me in the transition and I wouuld land the front off a bump whilst heavily leaned over, then again at the crest of the hill the front just flies up ... here's a picture (not me)
i have a 110mm stroke one on my 21
fork leg mounting bracket from dbr
i dont have no problems with steering look with my set up _________________ Half the strokes, twice the fun
