i dropped my MC21 off to the mechanics to get a top end rebuild at the end of june and they still havent done the job. The guy says that the parts sent from his supplier were the wrong ones and now theyre now waiting for the correct ones to arrive, and has been saying that for the last 4 weeks.
as im only 18 and dont have too much experience with mechanics, my question is should i be pissed at the mechanic? do i deserve free carb tuning or dyno runs
But what can you do about it? Maybe not much. If you think it will get done now, then see if they offer you anything, and if not then when it comes to payment time, express your thoughts and see what you can squeeze them for. If you're not sure they're going to get round to it anytime soon, then find another garage that can promise to do better, or do the top end yourself. It's really not that hard, and if you get stuck I'm sure people on this board will be happy to help.
If you've got some tools, patience, and a digital camera and can post pictures with your questions then I would say, give it a go. _________________ MC28 SE -sold-

They're wasting your riding time, so it's up to you really.
Parts generally arrive within two days from Honda, so you may be getting the run around there.
As Invigiator says, it's really not that hard to do - have a look at the workshop section and see what you think. If you're still not happy, then find another shop! _________________ MC21SP Plaything

Not sure how it is down under, but back home stateside a lot of stuff is done "by the book". If you brought in your bike one day and didn't get back until 6 days later just because three of those days were spent trying to find parts, reading the manual (they make them in english, right?) and scrathing their heads figuring out how they work, not to mention storage fees, make sure you're not gtting the wool pulled over your eyes dude.
Make sure they come clean. Students need all the cash they can hang onto. I know that all too well.

Why thank you.
I know there's somebody who at least used to be on this board who raced an NSR with an RS250 engine in OZ, but he's moved onto racing the big bikes now. Maybe you can track him down and ask him what you need to do to get to the track in OZ. I warn you, whatever your initial plans are .. it ends up being expensive. _________________ MC28 SE -sold-

I ordered a top end kit for Dave Ett from TYGA Performance in Thailand on Tuesday evening, and by Friday morning that kit was on the doorstep here in the UK. Had Dave decided to go ahead with the rebuild (he's gone with the "let's tune the nuts off it" option now instead!) that top-end would've been reassembled in around an hour!
Sure, we've done a lot of top ends, but your first top-end rebuild shouldn't take any more than about 2 hours per cylinder.
I say go to the mechanics', recover the bike, and run! Do the top-end yourself and both save $200 on labour, and get to understand your NSR at the same time! A top-end rebuild is so simple you'll be kicking yourself after for not doing it weeks ago!
Spend the money you save on some good tools!! _________________ Andy.

Then rebuild it yourself, you will learn as you strip the engine. Theres really not that much work involved, you just need to be careful! I got stuck into mine a while ago, replaced all seals at the crank, new water pump, new top end for both pots etc. I now have a "new" engine and all for £160!! _________________ NSR250R MC21 (NEARLY SOLD!!)
