Hiya guys, just bought an mc16 does anybody have a clue how many of these machines are currently registered in the uk.
Bike was running but is now stripped apart ready for restoration.Does anyone know of any NSR friendly bike shops in the South East,Essex area?
Thanks Rob.
at last another MC16 welcome!
not sure how many are around, not a lot on this forum i know that. spares are a problem for the 16 as it getting on a bit now. wemoto do a few bits for them and apex. (sorry andy) apart from that its e bay andy can do you some nice hell brake lines at a good price.
for pistons and rings you can use MC28 parts and i think andy can supply them as well.
best of luck with the rebuild, just ask if you need to know anything.
Thanks for your reply Jeff,i dont know too much about availability of parts or the cost come to that.I did have a brief chat with Stan Stevens and he warned me about crankshaft problems and the cost of replacing it,although mine seems to be fine. The reason i pulled mine apart was the clutch wasn't working although when i pulled clutch cover off it seemed to work ok when i pulled the lever.but it didnt disengage the gearbox,so i pulled the clutch apart and there seemed to be plenty of meat still on the cork plates,is there anyway of measuring wear ?ill get new ones anyway for the rebuild. Also the powervalves on the top cylinder seem to have a lot of play in them unlike the bottom ones!!When i pulled left hand exhaust off it had petrol in it .Would this be something to do with the powervalves??
Any advice would be appreciated.Thanks.
Check the clutch basket 'fingers' for wear. They get notched and stop the plates releasing properly once it's spinning.
The PV's won't account for petrol in the exhaust. You sure it was petrol? _________________ MC21SP Plaything

petrol in the exhast not come across that one before. did the engine run ok before you pulled it down?
as for the clutch, it is possable for the plates to stick together if the bikes been left standing for some time. with the cover off could you see the plates release when you pulled the lever in?
if you need a new clutch check out the market place, i think MC16 clutch plates are in there.
Petrol in the exhaust does not sound good. Perhaps a carb float bowl needle has jammed open, filling the thing with fuel when the petrol tank switch was left on?
Strip and clean the carbs out anyway since it's been stood a while. _________________ MC21SP Plaything

the clutch was compressing when the lever was pulled yes,the whole engine is going to be stripped and rebuilt anyway.Im going to stick it in a shop anyway to be done due to the unavailabily of any workshop manual the guy there races TZR 250's so he should know what hes talking about,i'll keep you all posted on developments. Thanks
Hiya again guys ,i have just got engine problems diagnosed both barrels need renicasiling new pistons powervalves etc, although the crankshaft is in good condition.
Anyway the price for all this inc engine rebuild etc is over £600 so i have decided to cut my losses and sell her, she's complete in good condition and was running, but stripped obviously, any offers
Thanks Rob
sorry to hear you getting rid i,d take it off your hands but the wife will go mad if i spend more money on MC16 bits.
pity as i hate to see one go to waste.
If its only top end do it yourself. Get the barrels replated and get some pistons from Tyga or Andy and rebuild it. The most exspensive bit will be the replate but you get to save all the labour rates. _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...
If i could get hold of a workshop manual i might have considered it,i know we've got the engine rebuild piece on the site and very good it is too. It's not a manual though is it?Make me an offer Jeff at least i'll know its going to a good home!! Thanks guys
I'm working on the English translation of the Workshop Manual now, but it won't be available for some time yet.
When it is available it will be in a new subscription only Members Section. I've already uploaded the first new pages and full colour wiring diagrams from MC18RJ, MC18RK, and MC21, but it's a long slow process. That said, I can read some Kanji already, and it's only been a couple of weeks!! _________________ Andy.

i put the bike on ebay and as yet have had no offers, about 14 hours to go.yesterday i picked the engine up from the shop,at least iv'e had a professiomal diagnosis of problems with it and also i have a broken down list of all parts needed and prices so thats handy, seems really expensive for bits though.if i get no offers on bike i'll take stephen rc45's advice and rebuild it myself.
where's the best place to get my barrells renicasiled?
thanks Rob.
