My bikes going in to have some work done, very soon, is it worth having the oil pump removed and run premix, whats the benifit? im probaly going to have it on a few track days, and use it on the road very little its more of a toy than something to get me around...If there is a deffinate advantage ill get it done but if there is nothing gained then ill leave it as is, but nows the time to decide as i dont wana get it set up again with new jets, I have the full HRC jet kit waiting so i could have it set up correctly. Its not something that bothersme either way! Cheers
i looked at this when i had mine done got differing advice
in the end when i spoke with mick (at total traction ) he told me to leave it on so thats what i did _________________ Half the strokes, twice the fun
removing the oil pump means one less mechanical thing to go wrong while riding the bike.
For a full track bike I would personally remove it. You can save a little weight, as well as know that as long as you mix your fuel properly you will have oil.
For a street bike, having the convience of the pump is nice when it comes time to fill up at the pumps. No need to figure out how much oil to put in.
Nigel thank's, i guess thats what mick will tell me then im off on the 29th with all bits in hand to see him. ps im getting the same set up as you Plus (yours was already done) a head conversion can you remeber what it cost?
cgallant.......do pumps go wrong? is there a potential problem? can it jam, get blocked?
i spoke to mick on mon and he said he had spoke to you
i lucky in the fact that mick does an awfull lot for me for a crate of beer every now and then
i also run my racebike in there colours and put a fair bit of work there way
they wont be the cheapest but you will get a good job
mick loves his 2 strokes aswell
he has loads of dyno runs (30ish i think) stored on the dyno computer from my bike with all the various jets/needles from the hrc kit so that will give him a good start _________________ Half the strokes, twice the fun
The only thing to bear in mind if you do keep the pump is that you could potentially increase the jets by a large amount over stock. If you're for arguments sake taking in 25% more fuel, you will not get an extra 25% amount of oil, as the stock pump will not go past it's maximum rate...
Premix is the 'safest' way to go. You can oil up according to your preference and know that you have no delivery worries unlike using the pump. _________________ NSR300R - Why did i ever have a 250...
Maxim, I understand totally, what is the oil pump maximum? surley afetr a dyno run the mixture will be looked at? ill ask the question, I only have 1 problem, if i need a blanking kit for the oil pump where can i get one quickly....
Nigle what did mick say about your mixture? afterall im have god dam as near same set up as you, (or will have) i even just ordered the head conversion which mick said you had as well. (copy cat copy cat)
fingers crossed it all goes well, Nigle ill see ya at donnington, Maxim did you book in?
I've never heard of an NSR pump failing, so has anyone else?
Personally, I leave it on as it's less hassle. Worked fine when I raced the bike, and I never even worry about it packing up. If they were prone to it, then the word on the street would be to go pre-mix... _________________ MC21SP Plaything

to be honest i trust mick 100% so as far as the mixture etc goes i dont get to invovled
we did have another 3 hp to what the bikes set up now but mick jetted it safe
he will explain all when your there
will be interesting to see how the 2 bikes compare with all most the same set up _________________ Half the strokes, twice the fun
