On my '28 I've got the standard 15/44 which left me wanting to change gear (into a non existant 7th) before the Dunlop bridge at Donington on Tuesday and was totally reved out not long after with a good distance to go before braking, I was just keeping it pinned anyway but those of you who fear WOT 6th gear 12000rpm+ situations would have been very scared, luckily I've situation tested mine before, i.e. cold morning, flat out for miles, it didn't seize
So I'm probably going to get a 40 for the rear and a 16 for the front as well thus giving me a bit of choice, anybody got a better idea?
According to the very informative (but very annoying as it's at 10,000 rpm and in kmh) gear ratio to speed chart on Jamie's site that'd give me the 115 mph flat out I've got now, 125mph with the 15/40 or a potential 135mph (if it would get there?) with the 16/40.
Sound about right? _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
i run 15/38 most of the time, gives me about 120-125mph which is just about perfect for cadwell as it will pull flat in top up the big hill but is still too low for donington. There, both me and Bill run 16/38 Donny. _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...
Doesn't the 28 run different gearing to the rest anyway? _________________ MC21SP Plaything

yes mate, but only by a fraction (about 3%) caused by a higher 6th gear and a different final ratio;
14:44 is still stupid low though unless your still running 40bhp
15:39 would be very similar to Bill and Steve's 15:38 so thats what I'm going to get. And a 16 front as well _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
I used to run a 15/40 on mine (how it was when I got it) but when I recently changed the chain and sprockets I just ordered a standard set from Apex and got the 15/44, I agree its far too low and whenever I get on any kind of open road I am wanting to change gear again. I will probably change back to 15/40 in the near future as it had no problem pulling in top with this set up.
