Forks seal

Mon Oct 31, 2005 9:59 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi all,

one of my fork seals started leaking..so i wanna replace it.

the fork had some rusting on it which i have got most of off..but there are still specs of black dots that are protruding(pitting?). i think they were the cause of the fork seal to bust.

any ways to get it off....i dont really have money to get them re-chromed etc..

cheers

Not as far as I know... Anyone?

The other option is to buy some aftermarket stanchions, which are usually a cheaper option than going the re-chroming route.

The shiney bit at the top. Properly called a 'fescalized' rod.

Your forks have a fork tube and a fork slider (the top bit and the bottom bit on conventional forks), but go by various other names just to confuse you!

hmm...
i heard that you can actually rub the "dots" back and then fill the little holes with ladies manicure believe it or not!
"looks like sh*t, but its a quick and cheap fix" (quote the guy)
not sure if it works tho...

im not sure what he told me to rub it back with tho.

Use a chrome cleaner, like Solvol autosol.

You will only be buying time I'm afraid, and will need a re-chrome sooner or later as the seals will only cope with a certain amount of damage.

My FJ ones are bad, and I've got them through the summer, but I think it's rechrome time now...

The "exact" size can be found here!

I know they aren't the cheapest, but they are genuine Honda parts, and you do get an oil seal and a dust seal in each kit. (1 kit required for each fork leg.)

Frankly, I can't understand how some companies can be selling original Honda parts at the prices they are quoting! Even with full UK Honda Dealer discount (which obviously I DON'T get!), I couldn't sell the seals much cheaper!

Go on, live dangerously and support the Site a little!

NSR seals are 41mm x 54mm. This is a popular size shared by many bikes so should be easy to get.

Andy's got 'em so you can't get much easier than that.
