Hi. I am buying my first NSR today! Should be a bit more nimble than my GS850G... I am swapping the (dead) motor in my new MC21 for a complete 2nd hand unit. Any general tips for this procedure for someone who has not done this before? Also, if anyone in Brisbane has a set of nice of exhausts to sell please let me know...
No real problems to be honest. Disconnect everything you can see that goes to the frame. I removed the front sprocket so I could get the chain off. I took the radiator and oil tanks off to make it easier, though I daresay you could do it with them in situ.
I also took the airbox and carbs off - the less weight the better really.
Once all the ancilliaries are off, just loosen all the bolts holding the motor in the frame, and support it on a jack or block then remove them all. Easy job really. _________________ MC21SP Plaything

Thanks for your tips but I actually got it all done before I had a chance to check your replies. New motor is in and about to be fired up. You were right about the oil pump, Andy... _________________ MC21 rider from Brisbane Australia.
