Powervalve Removal

Sat Dec 24, 2005 8:05 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

I'm not sure how to remove the powervalve barrel, I tried just pulling really hard and that didn't work...I don't want to buy a specialised tool for this so any suggestions would be great.

Also one of my cylinder heads looks as if the metal has deformed Rolling Eyes - the inside surface is very rough..could be baked on crap but I doubt it - will post a picture after I clean it up.

Would that be the lower head by any chance?

Yes it is from the lower cylinder, is this common? The surface is gritty and pockmarked in a certain area. The other head is very smooth. As for the tool, I know the proper tools go a long way, but im CHEAP!!

If you pop the seal out first and spin the nut back on the end of the shaft you can then lever VERY GENTLY on the under side of the nut with a pry bar (place a piece of wood or other soft item between pry bar and barrel) or as someone once suggested on this forum use the end of a claw hammer (the bit that you use to pull out nails). If the power valves arent coked up to badly they should pull out easily but be gentle with it to much force could damage the p.v.'s or worse the barrel. If they are coked in badly try soaking them with contact cleaner for few days or buy the proper tool.
