HRC jet kit

Wed Dec 28, 2005 1:16 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

I was looking for places that sells a HRC jet kit for my MC28 and came across http://www.apexleisure.co.uk/nsr.htm. They have the jet kit (part# 16020-NKD-970) for about $130usd (or $155usd w/ 2 of the emulsion tubes) while Tyga has them for $208usd (part #16020-NKD-651).

Whats the difference between the two besides big price difference? Why is the part# different? What else would I need besides the jet kit?

16020-NKD-970 is the leaded jet kit (circa '94), to be used with avgas. This was replaced with 16020-NKD-651 in '97 when Japan went unleaded.

Honestly it was at least over 2 years ago, hard to remember, he happened to relocate in my home state N.H. for a short while, not far from me. I think around $180 shipped. Also once I had everything set I sold the remainder of the kit to recoup some cash.

Most of the jets were useless for street use, so I bought an assortment of smaller MJ which I kept, used the X & Y pipes, needle holders, needle emulsion tubes, and B needles. I looked into replacing those parts to resell the kit as a whole but individually it cost almost as much as the kit, got those quoted from him also.

By the way I also got a JHA kit and I think that was the one I used, got that on ebay. I think that one is more complete? I think with the HRC you don't get PJ blanks, got those from Tyga with some other parts I ordered. Then sold that one, they are both all HRC parts.

www.jha.co.jp.

I got an MC21 kit for my MC18, it all fitted beautifully despite some people telling me otherwise.

hey Jeff, what settings did you end up with on your NSR? What mods do you have? I'm looking for a starting point to give the tuner so it takes him less time to find a good setting for my bike (less pain on my pocketbook Smile )

Ha! Good one! Rolling Eyes

Ca wants to know NH's base settings! Yeah, that'll be a good place to start!

C'mon, give us a break! Look up the table in the Main Site and note the HRC or M-Max settings, then take it from there. If you run Jeff's settings, the thing will seize quicker than you can say say, "ooh, I forgot to top up the 2-stroke"!

Hmm... let's see... www.weather.com... CA high today (San Jose) = 61° / humidity 63%, NH high today (Sandown) = 44° / humidity 72%

Ah, the question no one like to tell, because no 2 are the same. But I really don't remember what I used. Checked my spare jets and my 147.5 MJ are missing, I guess thats the ones I used, B needle, stock SJ & PJ, X & Y pipe.

Mods:Tyga airbox lid, Dayton air filter, Tyga GP pipes, HRC Hi-flow and Tyga Carbon reeds, fresh topend, I have a new wiring harness so it is only half restricted, have not done the GPS, did on my old harness.

I don't recommend you copy this but start high and work down, that is how I did it. Started at 155's and stepped down from there, I hate taking those dam tcarbs out over and over but its the price you pay to get the best out of your bike. I have never done a full throttle chop because I'm never there. Have done some plug checks and when I did the top end the crown looked perfect (for me).

Best of luck !

Sorry Andy....didnt mean to get you irritated. I read the tuning section about jetting but was wondering what size mains he was using since the article said that HRC/JHA recommended mains are wayyy too large for mildy modified street bikes. I wasnt going to use Jeff's jetting exactly but was trying to find a mid point between the two.

Thanks Jeff

Hey JB, I still post on H-T but havent seen you around in awhile. I got rid of the NC30 back in Aug. Got the 28 about 3 weeks ago and have only been able to ride it about 3 times due to the crappy weather. The new NC30 owner put the bike back to stock and is trying to sell it already. You still have your 28?

Thanks Jeff

Being on here almost 24/7 has that effect on me sometimes I think. I see the same old stuff time after time and often forget most people don't. Just ignore me like everyone else does! Smile I think I've pissed off Motulman too!! Smile

Remember Jeff has an MC21. Your best bet really is to start with the HRC base settings and work on that. Every single application is different, even more so when you are comparing an MC28 in CA to an MC21 in NH. Both models have entirely different carbs for a start. It would be easier (although no better) to compare an MC18 and an MC21 - at least they have similar carbs.

I'm going to go with the JHA kit since it's nearly the same as the HRC kit for almost half price. The jet kit will have to wait until Jan or Feb when I get the money to order the Tyga pipes (maybe some reeds and Tyga airbox too)

Yeah, they're too big and your "mildly modded" bike is in fact totally derestricted and will be running race pipes so you're probably looking at something like a 35/40% power increase, hardly "mild" eh? But it will start and not seize on big jets which is a good thing.

The HRC card (when other mods, pipes, airbox etc allow) is a massive thing, mine is that rich on the std card it wont rev out past 3rd gear and doesn't "come on the pipe" at all.

Not too sure about the jet kit being "useless for street use", I seized mine up running it too lean and could (if I were so inclined) have gone down 6 sizes further. Anyone running an unrestricted '28 with no powerjets and mains under 170 better had live on a mountain top in Cosa Rica and be a fair weather rider.

Have fun, '28 needles are a bitch to get out in situ unless I'm missing something obvious (Matt?).
