morning guys
i've just spotted some mc 18 carbs on ebay for £25 how would these babies run on a standard mc16,shame he hasnt got any cylinders!
cheers rob
Hi, you need the rubber that goes between the carbs and the crankcase as well - there is a post about it somewhere on this forum, plus there are some air feeds you need to either pipe up or block.
I put 18 carbs on my 16, it goes better with the bigger carbs.
I raced an MC18 with MC16 motor for a while-till I could get some MC18 cylinders.
I had the 1989 MC18 carbs (open airbox), heads, full PGMII electrics and pipes on it.
Strangely, it went a lot faster...
Yes, if you get those carbs, you will have to rejet. On the bright side, the JHA MC21 jet-kit fits. It did on mine, at least. _________________ The Chopster
Was speaking to Brother StephenRC45 just a couple of days ago, and the 16 came into conversation.
Stephen knows the MC16 better than me and it would seem that by throwing MC18 or 21 carbs and insulator on you're only getting rid of half the problem. Stephen says that there's plenty of exhaust port work required to really make the 16 breath.
So it would seem that the plan would be to throw the 16 barrels in the bin, and fit 18/21/28 barrels and carbs and just get on with enjoying 'real' NSR power!
Andy, didnt we do a port map for the '16 overlayed with a '18 or have I been slack and we never did it?
If not we can do one in say about.... 8 days lol
The '16 exhaust port is almost the same shape as an '18 but has had it wings clips, Im sure if you're as knowledgeable as Matt you could port a '16 to the same spec but I think for most of us buying '18/21/28 barrels is easyer, and maybe alittle safer. _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...
