Slow progress,

Little update on the work going on,

starting to put the fairing on and took me a few hours today to get the seat on, needed trimming down near the tank as the holes on the subframe where about 5 mm out, after fitting i noticed the harness can run along side the subfram which will be neater at the moment its underneath, but the seats on, and she's comming together, Not in the pic is my new rear master cylinder CRF450 unit that was a bugger to fit also, a circlip here and one there and grind down the push rod and she fits nice, PHOTO to follow.

you need a braided rear hose to tidy that swing arm up
did you have to enlarge the hole on your tank , i had to do it a little bit on the R and i have also had to do it on the 28 tank about 3.5mm

Dont worry the rear brake system will look ace the old hose and master cylinder are off, NEW crf450 unit on, Looks trick and a new braided hose to come!

As for the seat unit i didnt have to touch the tank only the part of the fairing that wraps round the top (seat bit) it was hard against the tank which left big gaps at the side and the rear mount holes didnt line up (holes in the fairing where 5mm back so didnt line up) but reshaped the bit that goes round the tank and it fits nice now! still have to finish that off and reroute the wire harness, now that the fairing is on i can see a better route!

I personaly would never run a small master cylinder and reservoir like fitted to the CRF and CR on a road/track bike. Ive seen it before when the the fluid expands and locks the brakes on. The bigger the reservoir the better, ever seen a GP bike with a small front brake reservoir? There is a reason.

I know we are talking about the rear here but even the HRC bit of green tubes holds more fluid and air than the little stuff fitted on the MX bikes these days. Its even more important for people like myself and Andy who are rear brake abusers

No problem, understand totally, but when your shallow like me you, do it for looks , and the good news is i never use my rear unless im doing hill starts LOL dont think ive ever ever used a rear set of pads on any bike

Be intresting to see what you think of this then as its on my wish list.. i like the front one because its tidy and the res is inbuilt but if you (being a bit of an expert by the sounds of it) think itll cause problems ill have to go for the rear endurance style with remote res.! so please tell me what you think!

maybe the bloke who welded the seat thread bit on my subframe at Tyga had been out on the Singahs the night befor then

and RC io never use the back brake either, not even on the track....well maybe a little on the track, eh Stephen

If you have any probs with the CRF rear, although I haven't with mine... You can get reservoir extensions from most good MX suppliers for it, which I think double the capacity. They're very cheap too.

Come to think of it Stephen, I've got a Brembo 15ml res on my front system. It said for rear brake use only... Hmm, I think I'll just change it to the proper 30ml version just incase! Better safe than sorry but looking good...

RC46, looks very nice but i would have to go with the remote type. Bill Limb came to a grinding halt last time we were at Donington because he cooked the fluid, first he thought he has sezied it, then he relised it just cost him a set of disks and not a rebuild lol

Maxim, yeah I dont like the little brembo res on the front, they do a biiig one for front use

Maybe it's a daft thought, but why doesn't anyone make a brake fluid cooler? You know, something with fins on to dissipate the heat and keep expansion down? I'm sure it could be done in quite a small space...

Can't say I've ever suffered from it, but it would be extremely easy considering what I do and the various bits of aircraft and tooling I have access to.

More a question to the top race peeps I guess, and specifically Stephen as he brought it up! Maybe there is a solution already out there we don't know about?

maybe a really small fridge that you could mount behind the resevoir and just leave the door open on it.
