I bought my NSR last year. Now I've been looking at this website for a few months and I'm confident it is a genuine 1996 MC28 SP Repsol model in excellent original condition (one tiny stress crack at front fairing fastener). Only 11,000 kms (~7,000 miles). 2 previous owners.
It came with all paperwork including the original receipt for the bike when it was bought in as a brand new import. It has original handbook, few other books too, and other documents all in Japanese so f*ck knows what they say. It even has some nice glossy pictures on elastic bands that must have been hung on the bars in the showroom. Also has spare unused key card thingy in envelope with more japanese paper.
The bike is standard except M Max race pipes (plus clean originals) and Maxton rear shock (plus original).
I paid £3,000 for it - yes £3,000. I just keep seeing NSR's for next to nowt and wonder if I've paid way over the odds. Also my insurer questioned £3,000 insurance value.
yes you got a bargain, MC28s are the most exspensive of all the NSRs and we could go into all the whys and hows again but its been covered a million times. (mc21 is better though)
you only have to look at how much bike direct in bristol charge for their re-sprayed although tidy 28SPs the one they have at the mo is £3699 the one they had befor was £4800 yes £4800, so yes you got a bargain _________________ MC21SP - Roth-tax

Thanks Mr Monkey, just got me thinking because there seem to be some real bargains out there for well under a grand. Don't wanna sell it mind you but started wondering if i'd lost a grand or more just for buying it.
Relax, money schmoney, I swapped my perfect RVF400 for my '28, this is the breakdown I put up on another forum to point out to some idiot that you can't base a bikes value on what it owes you (he was trying to sell an NC30 for £6k+!)
As I said the NSR was a direct swap for the RVF which I'd spent about a grand on;
To aquire this RVF400 I part chopped (well not really, NSRMonkey gave the the offer price for it and I gave the shop the £££ after we'd agreed to the p/x) a CBR400 and £2300.
To get the CBR400 I p/x'ed an RS125sp Aprilia and £2k
The Aprilia cost me £2200
The NSR rebuild cost £1460
Magteks for NSR £600
Running total is therefore
£2200 for RS125
£2000 extra for CBR400
£2300 extra for RVF400
£1000 spent on RVF400
£2060 spent on NSR250
I make that £9560 and it doesn't actually run right now!
So yes, you did OK. _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
Money schmoney, I aint loaded you know! (Sounds like you are fonty). And I like to be sensible with me pennies. I just hadn't seen any for sale for over 2K never mind 3 (except Bike Direct in Bristol ta monkey). And plenty for well under 1K.
It took some justifying to the missus to have a 2 stroke toy to sit in garage next to the diesel. At least I can tell her it was a good buy now - maybe she'll let me get a nice '21SP to keep it company now.
I agree with Maxim - a bike is worth what it's worth to you, if you're glad you bought it then it was a good buy.
And as for transferring the cost of the previous bike to the new one, all this 'it owes me' stuff just means it was a bad financial investment if you've sunk more money in than it ends up being worth. What you've paid is irrelevant.
Look at the RGV500 conversions that come up on ebay every now and then, they usually go for a lot less than people put in building them.
I've got an NS400/RGV, it cost £2k to build including all the donor bikes/parts. I'd fully expect to see £2k back if I put it on ebay complete.
I've also got a 500cc top end that 'owes me' £1300. ie that's what it cost me. Now that it's f**ked before it even got fitted on the bike it's virtually worthless - the original price I paid doesn't change the value to someone else.
I understand that when you start customising it / p*ssing about / spending on it you are generally loosing money. I have done some bike racing and got quite good at haemmoraging cash with no chance of getting it back .
I guess I was enquiring as to whether I had paid too much of a premium for the fact the bike was original ('cept pipes/shock).
Fontyyy - RE. Andy - I'll have to keep an eye out for him .
I've got two MC28 SP's and had one before this and I'd say you got a bargain. I almost bought it myself cos I though it such a good price. The important thing to remember here is that you have a true collector’s bike. The last of a line and I seem to remember a minter at that. The value will never go down not like the MC21's which are ten a penny at the moment.
I sold my first MC28 SP for 1700 quid about 4 years ago. Only one guy was interested and he pretty much named his price. Saw it for sale on eBay last year (now an SE) and it went for £2500.
I sold a mint 28 SE about 5 years ago for 2000 and a pretty nice 28SP 2 years ago for 2200... You can still find bargains but they're holding their prices! _________________ NSR300R - Why did i ever have a 250...
