Derestriction + oil pump

Wed Aug 18, 2004 8:56 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi,
When derestricting an MC21 (Std R version) using either wire splice or box, is it necessary to have the carb's jetting setup? Or is the std jetting adequate. Rolling Eyes The plug's look a good colour in it's current (restricted form).

While checking the oil pump adjustment, with minimal slack on the cable, the spring loaded pulley rest's against it's stop (tick over), open the throttle to max, the calibration line is about 3mm out of adjustment.
Tighten the cable to get full oil at full throttle opening and the pulley is about 3mm off it's stop at tick over, with cable tension holding the pulley open!

Which is right, surely pulley should be at rest at tickover and at max at max throttle?

any opinion's welcomed!

Depends, as a racer I set the pump to max out at full throttle for obvious reasons.

The pump should be set to the calibration mark for street use though...

As for jetting, you may get away with it, but you will certainly benefit from checking and if need be rejetting after any mod you do. Suck it and see really, but be aware of the consequences if you don't check your plugs after the mod!

Ok, thanx Dave.
Is it then normal for the cable to hold the oil pump open slightly?

I have previously tried adjusting to the calibration mark, but the bike filled the street with smoke!!!

Having followed the bike in a variety of condition's, a blue haze is ocasionally apparant, seem's about right to me.

I'm after an original exhaust, to see if I can reduce the flat spot at 8000-8500rpm, I'll then think about derestricting. Keeping an eye on the plug's.

Thanx for the advice

Regard's Phil
