hey guys, been peeping this forum for a bit now, but finally decided to register so i can ask a question.....
I own a MC21 250sp (pentax), I bought a front gp type mudguard from tyga, and looks like i have to remove the calipers and remove the front wheel in order to fit it. Is this the case???
Also, If i need to do this can i just wrap some tie downs on the top fork clamp and lift the bike with an automotive engine crane or would this cause damage? What is best way to lift up front of bike?
Thanks guys!!
PS- anyone out there ride a pentax sp? I know jezza does, but anyone else? pics? cheers! _________________ ........."I love the smell of 2-stoke in the morning.......Smells like victory"............
It might be bendy enough to put in place without taking the front off. If not, then you just need to remove the wheel and calipers. You can support the bike like you say, around the headstock is usually best, but just make sure everything you touch the bike with wont damage it. _________________ NSR300R - Why did i ever have a 250...
It's also possiblt to jack the front up using a block of wood onto the lower cylinder. This is only any good if the rear is on a paddock stand though.
You'll find you only need remove one caliper, as that will provide enough room to get the wheel out. _________________ MC21SP Plaything

Hey Matt, thanx for the reply! yeah im going to get the engine crane from work sometime over next two days to whip the wheel off.
cant afford that cracking sound, just painted it.

You could use two tie-down straps hooked under the top yoke or around the handle bars & to a beam on the garage roof if you`re in a garage/shed.
Have to loosen all the bolts first before raising the bike.
Rachet straps are best. Also best to have the bike on a paddock stand, unless you`ve got someone to hold it steady whilst you raise it.
You can lift the front wheel onto a block of wood first then take the strain with the straps. Remove the block & it should stay suspended.
Have to chock the rear wheel or put it in gear if you haven`t got a stand.
You can even lean it over on the side stand with a strap holding it at the front, rear wheel chocked/put in gear. Make sure the strap isn`t pulling the bike forward off the stand though or get someone to hold the bike whilst you change the mudguard.
Sky hooks attached to the underside of a Chinnok? _________________ MC21SP Plaything

Using a stem lift front stand. Looks something like this or these ones, but I couldn't really figure out how to use the latter ones _________________ Jerry Lai

hahaha my garage is about 4-5 the size but its full of cars and the area around my bike looks similar.......... have a steel beam above front of bike so ratchet straps could be the go also.
think i'll do it outside with the skyhooks and commanche helicopter!
Thanks mick! (you can actually ratchet the weight of the bike with the straps or you need mates to lift while you ratchet?) _________________ ........."I love the smell of 2-stoke in the morning.......Smells like victory"............
