Just bought a NS400RF she's in a bit of a state and if i can get her running over the next few months. My long term project will be underway, Im gona try and get the motor into a NSR250 frame and make a 400 (maybe 500 big bore) road bike thats looks as close to the mc21 as possiable!!!
If any of you own a NS400 and are looking for bits ill be sticking parts up in classifieds as and when they become avaliable. I need all the running gear for now just to get it up and running first!
The NS400 lump in an NSR250 frame has been discussed here before, there's problems getting the rear facing cylinder round the shock as far as I recall, (I'll have a search).
Yup thats a fair point, Im gona try first and try and keep it as honda as possiable. I know it slides into a rgv frame or a rs250 frame nicely But i would like to keep it honda, First job is to get the we bugger running. its been sitting for 2 years. the good news is the battery took a charge last night and the ignition came on this morning, so ill clean all the bits out and see if i cant get her running soon, Ill need some advice on how to store an engine as i cant see this being a quick project and dont wana let anything go dry, but im looking forward to it, never done anything like this before!!!! I rekon that if i can get it into a good frame that will be the hardest bit of the project!!!! the rest is money
If you read that topic that Fontyy put up and i think I've read somewere before that it fits in the NC30 frame as the shock is offset( but I might be talking crap),If you use a NC30 frame then you can use the NC30 swinging arm and build it to look like a MC28
I have been toying with the idea of doing this myself after I have finished my 21. I think it can be done with some serious re engineering of the frame, apart from getting the engine in and aligned I think one of the big problems is routing the rear exhaust as fonty said. the r/h upper shock mount is bang in the way and needs modifying in some way.I have seen a pic of an mc21 with an rg500 engine in it and it looks like the guy has cut away the top of the mount for clearance and welded a brace on to put the strength back, plus you will need to loose the sub frames r/h lower rail. the other problem could be clearance for the carbs between the fwd frame rails.
An rg500 motor in an rgv250 chassis is probably a more straight forward installation and you can buy all the parts from here www.suzuki-rg500.com .
Or a rd500 motor in areverse cylinder tzr chassis like this www.nkracing.co.uk
Problem with that is the engines are so GOD DAM expensive AND there is lots of them about (well when i say lots i mean more than any other conversion). I was gona do a RD350 job as its a twin and can go to 480 (i think) but when this came up it was just right, RGVMIKE had it on the classifieds and for 400 quid even if i find out the engines stuffed ill still make my money back in parts! Already sold the fairings for 85quid LOL If i cant keep it NSR..... ill see if i can get a NC30 frame and try that, at least itll be honda!!!!!! vfr750 rear hub and away we go!!!! LOL fecking bikes
