More electrical woes, at least with mechanical failures you can see what has gone wrong!!. My mc16 has no sparks on either cyl. After the crank rebuild the front was only firing intermittantly but once all the terminals had been cleaned and re-fitted it was fine for 10miles before the front failed, closely followed by the rear. How common are pulse generator failures? I only ask because after printing off the wiring diagram from Jamie's site I see that the neutral switch also comes off this part of the loom and whilst testing for sparks the neutral light was flickering off as I kicked the bike over. The first circuit from the battery through the ignition and kill switch to the cdi units appears ok but I am just looking for any ideas before I tear all the electrics to peices. _________________ it's a name, not a condition
Problem solved. The clip on the plastic box where the wiring from the pulse generator meets the loom was broken allowing the two parts to vibrate apart thu8s giving a flickering neutral light and no sparks. Hurray!!! A small zip tie was used to hold the box together, all I need to do now is put all the plastics back on. Out of interest, will running on the street with no thermostat cause any problems, ie not allowing the engine to reach full working temp causing it to seize? _________________ it's a name, not a condition
It's not a great idea, though I run without one. As long as you let it warm properly - which will obviously take longer - and ensure it doesn't get too cold whilst riding you'll be fine. On really cold days you might find you have to tape off a bit of the rad to get it up to temp.
But then, you'd rather be in the pub if it's that cold! _________________ MC21SP Plaything
