help with strange wire splices

Wed Aug 02, 2006 5:35 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

I was looking at my wiring to the PGM3 unit and there seems to be some wire splices but it's not as described on the site.

From the Black connector
Orange/Blue wire is spliced with the Green/grey wire from the white connector.

From the white connector
yellow/grey is spliced with the Blue/grey wire from a grey connector a bit up the harness.

The bike runs, but seems to be hard to rev out in 3rd gear and up.

I looked at my spare harness and it has teh same wire splice on the yellow/grey to blue wire.

Can someone help explain why these splices were done?
I would like to derestrict the bike, but not sure what to do with these splices.

from the wiring diagram this looks to be the way it came from the factory.
Kind of cheezy looking as it doesn't look very stock.
So if I was to do the wire splice to derestric would I leave the green wire spliced to to orange/blue wire then splice the black/white wire in too?

Good old Honda. Deperatelt trying to confuse everybody.

That's perfectly standard.

Ignore the yellow and blue wires spliced together. That's the two earth wires from the ignition pickup. They go into the CDI and then to ground. Honda are just saving themselves a connection.

To do the splice, cut the orange/blue wire right up at the connection to the green (or anywhere), and then splice it into the Black/white wire, or any ignition switched 12V. Tape it up and the job is done.

thanks for the info Matt.
I think that little bit bit should be added to the splice instructions.
I guess most people don't open the tape that faar back to even notice those stupid factory splices Shocked
I ended up installing my HRC derestricter instead.
