I thought the front end was looking a little low so I measured the distance from the bottom of the bottom yoke and asked Fenton to do the same.

Mine measured 3.5" and fentons 6"

the only difference is mine has R forks with SP internals and I dropped them 25mm.

The bottom of the yoke to where? I measure sag with a cable tie on the stanchion, measuring the difference between the forks fully extended, to when the bike is sitting upright, with about 10 litres of fuel. Mine is 17mm, but anything from around 14mm-27mm is ok I believe.

You can then set the bike up to sag an amount with the rider on board. Do you mean 3.5 inches of travel with you on board?

I mean when the bike is at rest with no rider there is 3.5" between the bottom of the bottom yoke and the top of the slider.

You need to jack the front wheel clear of the ground, and fit a cable-tie (tie-wrap) to the stanchion (slider). Lower the front-end back on to the gound and then jack it clear again. Measure the distance between the cable-tie and the top of the fork leg for the sag.

What you are referring to is the ride-height.

Yet too much sag will give a low ride height.

I just want to know if it's too low.

It might be too low because the suspension is too soft. That can be because the oil level is too low or the preload is set incorrectly, amongst other things.

You need to adjust the sag and then worry about whether you have enough clearance - or reset it to stock!

If you have 3.5" of travel and the fender constantly twats the bottom of the nose, then you have a problem!

I ran my '21 with 13mm of fork above the top yoke. It was really sharp on the steering but would scrub a front tyre really quickly. the preload was wound in (can't remember exactly) with about 2 rings showing. I couldn't tell you what the distance between the fork and the bottom clamp was, but there was no contact under heavy braking/full suspension travel.

Again, I think you should set up the sag first, and then worry about the ride height. No reason why you can't set it up as stock, measure it, then drop the front (say 10mm) and re-measure it/re-set the preload, then drop it a bit further and re-check it until you are happy.

Just setting it up by measuring the distance between the fork tops and the bottom yoke and asking if it's OK, is like asking if your crank is OK just by looking at a photo of it!!

I wasnt trying to set it up I just noticed that after swapping internals it appears to sit a lot lower and wondered whether this was normal or not

Is the setup now as per stock? If there is that much difference between yours and Fenton's, then I would check it.

I would expect the "R" and the "SE/SP" ride height to be the same, so you two bikes should at least be very similar.

Apart from being complete r legs with complete sp internals they're stock I've set them up and dropped them according to the base HRC setup. My main concern is that they will bottom out under hard brking as 3" doesnt seem to be a great deal of travel although I'm unlikely to find out until spring now.
